Dating

I was just wondering what everyone thought of dating someone in the same field as you. Do you think it would work out if you date someone who is a firefighter and first responder. My feelings I think it would work out, because you know what ur girlfriend or boyfriend is going through. Just leave a message and let me know what you think.

Thanks

I'm posting this due to the fact that I have several friends leaving for Iraq this week. As I'm sure everyone has heard that there is a "Going Away Ceremony" for all of the Indiana soldiers leaving and their family and friends Wednesday at the Dome. As Wednesday approaches please say a prayer for them as they prepare to fight for our country. Chris is on his second round of duty leaving his wife and a special little angel coming in April. The Draft

Before I give my views on the draft I need to let you know my background. I joined the army 8 days after my 18th birthday. It was during the Iranian hostage crisis, Carter was the president, the cold war was very chilly. I spent most of my 12 years wearing the uniform in the Texas Army National Guard. I love the army, I have the utmost respect for all of the men and women who wear the uniform today. It is an all volunteer force and all of the people in the armed services today have enlisted…

I'm a girl therefore I'm useless?

So this is more to vent than anything else. I am new to the fire department and am switching over from EMS. On the ambulance I am respected and trusted because I have seen the calls and been there and worked side by side with the others on my service. However, now as I join the fire department for the first time no one is respecting not because I'm new and am learning that I would at least understand but no they are not respecting me because I am a female! There is a woman who has been on our… Continue

JOIN OUR NEW MORNING INTERNET TV SHOW!

Hey everyone! I appreciate all of your support you have given me in 2007!

As you know, I'm a professional firefighter for over 21 years and a volunteer prior to that since I was 16. I'm now trying my hand at broadcasting using BlogTV.com. I constantly promote the fire service on the show while having fun at the same time. You could say the show is loosely based on the morning coffee talk at the kitchen table in any fire station around the…

New place, New Department, New attitude

SO, many of you know that I have made a big jump across the country in pursuit of a trauma nursing degree. I find myself about 8,000 feet lower than previously, and there are no mountains anymore, but there is a beach! The people are a little different, the rules are a little different, and the cost of living is different, but there's no sales tax here. I first became a firefighter in 1998 and now find myself on the opposite side of the country and in 2008 I become a probie again. I wasnt… Continue

I Am One

I am only one,

But still, I am one.

I cannot do Everything,

But still, I can do something.

I will not refuse to do

the something I can do.

The 1983 Buffalo Blast Killed Five Firefighters

This brings me to the night of December 27, 1983. I was a pretty new firefighter. At 20:23 hours, a full assignment was dispatched to North Division & Grosvenor streets. The three engines, two trucks, rescue and 3rd Battalion were responding to a report of a large propane tank leaking in a building. Engine 32 arrived and reported nothing showing, but they were talking to some workmen from the four-story, heavy-timber warehouse (approx. 50' x 100'). Truck 5, Engine 1 and BC Supple arrived…

Window Stickers

So having been in the fire service since the mid 80's, I have always envied the IAFF guys and their window decals, hell they have about 30 of them now. Irish, diamond plate...you name it, and they all look good...even the god awful gold ones.

OK so they are get out of jail free cards...right. How many times have you been stopped with one on your window and gotten out of the ticket???

So since my department is atached to an AFL/CIO Union I cant…

A New Year Is Upon Us

In these days between Christmas and New Years, nothing ever seems to get done. The day after Christmas in Canada (and Ireland and England, I think) is St. Stephen's Day or Boxing Day and I have heard it's the day on which everyone boxes up the stuff they got and tries to find a home for it somewhere among the already cluttered existence they already enjoy. I had to work on St. Stephen's/Boxing Day this year, and in anticipation of the changes coming up for me in a shift transfer associated…

The Beginning of the Journey ---First Steps on the Road to Joining the Fire Service

For those of you who don't know me, actually, even for those who do, my blog area will articulate my latest and hopefully greatest adventure.....finally volunteering for the fire service.

I currently serve as the state-wide Training and Education coordinator for the Firemen's Association of the State of New York...better known as FASNY (not FANCY, as it's sometimes referred to). My job entails working with the T & E committee to offer educational programming to the Fire and…

BRONX RESCUE VIDEO

FDNY firefighters were put to the test on December 21, 2007 when they faced an apartment fire with civilians inside. Firefighters utilized a portable ladder and were able to get the trapped civilians to safety. The fire was located on the North Side of the Bruckner Expressway near Rosedale Avenue (Thanks N. DeMarse). "L-54's OV & CHFF threw the portable ladder with assistance from members of Ladder 47. Ladder 54's inside team also removed the female victim (shown at the window) via the…
