Firefighter poem from my heart

I WISH YOU COULD...

I wish you could see the sadness of a business man as his

livelihood goes up in flames or that family returning home,

only to find their house and belongings damaged or destroyed.

I wish you could know what it is to search a burning bedroom

for trapped children, flames rolling above your head,

your palms and knees burning as you crawl, the floor

sagging under your weight as the kitchen beneath you burns.

I wish you…

MVA with entrapment Rt 66 just prior to Glebe Rd.

On Thursday the 16th of August 2007, The Alarm was rung for a MVA on Rt 66 with possible entrapment. Units responded to the initial dispatch location but found nothing. E102 then rerouted and began heading West bound on Rt 66. After a short travel down the road E102 spotted the MVA on the East bound side of RT 66. E102 then arrived on scene shortly there after. Once on scene we found 1 Pt. with no entraptment, Medic 104 arrived on scene and attended to the Pt. who was then transportd to the… Continue

Fireman's Tears

Fireman's Tears

The alarm rang, as it had so many times before.

He was the first of the fireman up and out,

Awakened from his bed at the station

By the clanging of the bell.

As Engine 3 pulled out of the bay,

Dispatch paged another station.

And all the firemen aboard the truck

Were tensed with anticipation

"It's gonna be a nice 'un, boys,"

He said as he donned his gear.

And the young bucks smiled at him…

Firefighter's Heart

Firefighter's Heart

If you look deep into a Firefighters heart,

you will find they're a machine with every working part.

In there you will find there's not much of a difference, and when they're on a job there is no interference.

The parts inside them that you will find,

are enough to make your head spin and even blow you mind.

They have LOVE for everything his family, GOD, and you, and when something goes wrong he knows just what to do.

They…

Rainy days

I know there are people getting a lot more rain than we are which means there are those people who do not pay attention to the low water crossings so I am sure we will get a couple of calls for water rescues. The weekend is almost here....Anyone taking those last minute vacations before school starts? Have a good day and be safe....

First Post, First Year of Firefighting

Well, I wasn't going to blog here since I am always behind on my other blogs. However, this seems the best spot to blog about fighting fires.

I guess since this is my first post, I will give a little info about me. I joined the rural fire department here in Jamestown 2 months ago. I had been talking about it for a couple of years with a buddy who was on. Well the chance came up, so I got voted on as an apprentice firefighter.

In the past couple of months, we have gotten pages… Continue

Vacation at Home

I took the week off from work (both the department and the task force) just to spend some time at home and take the kids to the beach. Going to the beach from my house involves loading up my folding cart and a half-ton of crap (my needs are in the cooler, but I have a wife and three girls, so picture the load), and walking about two blocks. Our home has been here at the beach for over ten years now and yet my only visit to the ocean's edge would be on Memorial Day Weekend and on Labor Day…

A tear for a person I never knew

It's tough to dump so much effort into a stranger and have the end result come out the way it did and the way it does so many times. It's tough to watch the families in such crises and pain for their loved one, on our knees in the their living room, using everything in our bag of tricks, we know in the back of our minds what the outcome is going to be but we still try, we push that thought down and as futile of an effort as it may be...we still try, and it still…

Don't forget where you came from!

At what point does an individual forget where they came from or stop being progressive in the fire service. Unless a person sucks their way through the ranks or back doors a position of management, we should NEVER forget what got us to be successful in our craft! If a person wants to aspire to be a chief officer or "the" chief officer, they would have to have some sort of education that takes years to accomplish. These classes take time and dedication. The material is usually more progressive… Continue

What are the odds?

8.13.2007: Today is the day of many first's for me. The first day I delivered a baby and the first day I turned 31 years old, my birthday too. So what are the odds of a medic delivering a baby on their birthday? I have no idea, it truly has not all caught up with me today, but everything went text book and the prize, a baby boy who weighed 7lbs 5 oz, at 17 inches long.

PS: The mother was pissed I did not have an epidural readily available.

PSS: My partner in this crime…
