back to normal!

Yesterday from 0900-1700 I was out at one of our local parks first doing some rope rescue training by repelling and rock climbing as well as hiking, then afterwards some of my group went caving and swimming in lower level whitewater.

My new knee bits held up fantastic! no instability, pain, or swelling!

I think I can now officially say that I am back to my old active self and can put away the constant fear of re-dislocation :) :)

yays :) I'm back!!!

After some lengthy discussion (I can be quite convincing when determined to be) my FD doc was willing to clear me to ride fireboard as long as I'm on a 3 rather than 2 person ambo crew so that I dont have to lift Pt's

So I had my first FD shift in over 100 days yesterday :) it was very very VERY good to be back!!! ..... granted we got the big goose egg as far as number of calls goes, but hey, i was back!

I'm at an aide tent for a festival in a more sketchy area of my… Continue

SERIOUSLY the questions were worded completely and utterly retardedly

I had a 4.0 last semester and have a 3.789 overall for both criminal justice and paramedicine combined

fire dept and the need for physical fitness

so.......... for my last paper for medic school I am presenting about the need for us volunteers to implement a physical fitness program (right now the only thing we h is a free pass to the county parks and rec centers which I NEVER see anyone else at) especially since our ability to count PT as hours has just been taken away.

my paper needs to be TEN PAGES............... soooooooo, anyone have resources on the need for physical fitness/diet coaching / how to implement… Continue

Helping yourself by helping others

Today started out as yet another me-day tuesday, something thats become part of the weekly schedule since my injury. I picked up my venti-iced-whole milk-half caf-peppermint-white mocha, went to the ATM to get some dollars since the clifton general store doesn’t allow plastic for minimal purchases and all I wanted was a BLT, drove through the back roads to clifton and parked. As I started walking I heard someone yelling for help. It was an elderly lady who was helplessly lost after attempting… Continue

On a newfound appreciation for the little things in life

Due to my recent dislocate-my-knee-and-thus-have-cadaver-put-in-my-knee escapade, i have now gained a newfound appriciation for the things I used to take for granted, especially my friends and family who have stuck by me through this whole mess. This injury/surgery has for all intensive purposes catupulted me into being a bedridden 21 year old geriatric patient. I cannot even do the basic things needed to sustain life on my own. At the most, other than the bathroom breaks when it gets to the… Continue

thank goodness!!!

CRAWFORD NOTCH, N.H. -- Two hikers missing in Crawford Notch since Sunday were found Tuesday morning -- exhausted, dehydrated but otherwise OK.

Alex Obert, 30, and Stephen McCay, 29, both of Arlington, Va., were found on the back side of Mount Eisenhower. A helicopter spotted the men walking and took them off the mountain at about 10:30 a.m.

"We're feeling pretty good," Obert said. "Glad to be out of the weather and into some dry clothes."

The men were in good… Continue

on having electricity put thru your muxcles

had my first pre-op Physical Therapy session today... didnt do much exercise wise, but got a take home sheet of exermercises...

what we mainly did is use the e-stim which is where they basically electrocute you muxcles so that they spasm which makes them basically get a workout without me physically working them

it was the WEIRDEST feeling I have ever felt...... like it was a cross between tickling and how it feels when you run into a dog electric fence... and the whole time… Continue
