This is the time of the season where you get together with friends and family and share the time with everyone around and thank God for the time we spend healthy and upright. We also take time to share a moment for all those who have passed before and what they have taught us and shared with us while they were upright. Pass on the tradition and share the knowledge that has been taught. If we lose that knowledge it will never be returned. Have a great holiday season and STAY SAFE EVERYONE!!!!

So I got to thinking about posting something that wasn't a nag session about seatbelts, or that really had anything to do with firefighter safety, per se. (thanks Mick for the inspiration) I think I'd just like to express my thoughts about what the Fire Service, in particular the volunteer fire service does, around the holidays.
For those of you "Catlicks", of which I'm one, the Holidays are a celebration of our Savior's birth. Has the celebration become too commercial? In my mind,…

The Fire Fighter's Night Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town,
The fire siren echoed blaring its sound.
The firefighters came running from far and from near,
And raced to the trucks quickly donning their gear.
And I in my bunkers, my boots and my hat,
Jumped to the engine to see where the fire's at.
Down at the corner of Fifth and of Oak,
The dispatcher informed us of a house filled with smoke.
Smoke poured…

In a moment of weakness, a non-firefighting blog entry, or at least it's not pure firefighting stuff in the sense of the word. But I digress- I'm standing in my kitchen, watching Caroline and Honora share Shepherd's Pie back and forth across the table (definitely not desired behavior) and glaring at the Christmas lights I have strung from the kitchen to the dining room and across to the living room.
I'm not one to ascribe to conspiracy theories, but it definitely seems as if each of…

So, I'm just starting out at New Cumberland Fire Department, but I gotta say I'm loving the Fire Service. Taking my first training class at HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College) on January 18th and 19th. "Introduction to the Fire Service", and I'm taking my rider's test next week. Haven't been this excited to be a part of something in a long time....well, ever, really!

So I send my partner to the unit to get the LP12 I walk in the room by myself as soon as I walked in the nursing staff started leaving. That pissed me off becasue that always happens down here. I told them " where the hell do you all think your going get back on that chest and BVM you all are trained for CPR too. Needless to say one of the nurses got pissed off and…
