I was surfing some blog posts and I thank Tiger and Lutan for their takes on the respect issue in the fire service. I am a firefighter who has been in the business (so to speak) for 15 years. I have not learned all there is to know, and I know I never will. I have taken strides to further educate myself through training in house, and also outsourcing for more technical programs my department may not offer. I have seen the fire service evolve in the short 15 years I have been a…

So ya, lets try this blog thing...
Yesterday my oldest daughter was running a fever so lucky me... DAD gets to stay home sick too. I never thought having a sick kid could be so much fun... All she wants to do is cuddle up and hang out with dad. This rocks...just to bad she has to be sick. Oh well I'll enjoy the time w/ her just the same.... but I better get lunch ready I think this is long enough for my very first blog......It's a work in progress. Besides that I think she is finally…

This is the begining of what we hope to be a cool site for the volenteers to be able to show people what they do, and be able to add pictures and comments for others to view.

Well, It's that time again! I'm preparing for Re-Certification with NREMT. So, If I'm not on here much its because I'm getting all my stuff ready.
I think I'm going to have to study really hard, harder than the last time as some things have changed since our group took the National Cert Exam and State Licensure test. Yeah, I know, its mostly what I already know, but somethings are new this time for the Emergency Care Attendants. At least I'm not the only one out there! I have my crew of 6…

Friday, five calls.
Saturday, three calls.
Sunday, 2 calls - so far.
Ten calls inside three days is a little beyond a joke!
Friday's calls I've mentioned. Saturday -
13:58 - Support call for a grass & scrub (brush fire for those non-aussies). Small fire in a patch of parkland.
16:53 - Support call to a going grass & scrub fire, could have got nasty but was rounded up.
22:54 - Support call for a house fire - they wanted our thermal imaging…

Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear- period.
I tire of hearing of newbies and probies being ridiculed, questioned, demoralised and many other forms of "harassment" and "punishment" by the older generation in the emergency services.
There's simply no need for it. Resepct should be given from day one that the newbie walks into the firehouse.
I'd suggest that if the older generation firefighters (and other emergency service personnel) want…

Hey Everyone!!
My department is looking for some comments. These comments at the below listed website will give us a better opportunity for a grant for some Dive Team Dry Suits. The more comments the better chance we have. Most of our dive equipment has been funded by the firefighters themselves, and a grant to help would be awsome!!
Website: www.hamburgerhelper.com Go to "Find a Project" on the header bar. For state "Indiana" next box "Burns Harbor" Click on the link that…

To the child who wants to know why his *insert family member here* did this to him?
To the parents that demand you make their child better right now?
To teenager that wants to know what they should do now?
To your best friend and partner when the call didnt go quite right?
To our families when they want to know why we are sad?
To the…

I posted this on the Missouri Firefighters and Rural Firefighters groups in reply to the same question, how do we get more people into our department. I decided I would add it as on of my blogs also, sorry it is not about politics like my normal blogs.
From everything I have read it seems the National average for volunteer fire department membership is 0.3% of the population severed. That is to say for every 1000 people in your service area you should expect 3 volunteers. Some…

I apologize for the lapse in blog posts, but back in the week before St. Patrick's Day, my entire family came down with one of the worst GI bugs I have ever experienced. If you have ever been in a home where both parents and all three small children are simultaneously going through a nasty GI virus, you can appreciate what I mean. In fact, over a WEEK later, I still was getting around to eating bananas, rice, applesauce or toast.
This year Savannah celebrated St. Patrick's Day on the…

Then find a state which would be North Carolina and then search for the program with the Technology project and click on it. Last scrool to the bottom and add a comment in support of the project. I hope you all will help me out. Grant ends March 31st 2008 so get comments in quick. Thanks!
