Taking fire department training videos to a new level...

My daughters boyfriend just graduated with honors from the prestigious Pasadena Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Film Production - Editing, and with honors. Being the dad, attending the graduation, I had no idea that the guy dating my daughter was so damn talented. Needless to say, I still feel amazed knowing that this kid has a really bright future ahead of him. Don't you just love creativity and brilliance?

Unfortunately, the fire service is not…

My life as a Firefighter

I was raised around Fire/EMS professionals my whole life. I wanted to be a firefighter since the fist time a fire truck taking off to go on a call. When I was 12 I started going on calls with Davy Volunteer Fire Department. A lot of people in the dept at that time didn't like me being there because they were worried that I was going to get hurt. I wasn't on the department so I wasn't covered on their insurance. I still came out on every call I could. I didn't do nothing more than roll hose and… Continue

Put to the Test: A 6-alarm fire reveals the importance of command, control & preparation

By Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Maynes

The fire service believes size-up or situational awareness begins long before your arrival on the fireground; it can start with the receipt of the alarm or with your commute to the firehouse. Stories of Survival, DC Firefighters Burn Foundation

There's very little to add to what is presented in these two videos.

Even less to what Joe Morgan, Charlie Shyab and Kenneth Humphries share.

The FDIC Experience: Returning Home

My goal is to chronicle, as best I can, some of the many great experiences I had last week at FDIC-2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. There's so many of them flowing through my brain, some of them are short snippets while others I remember as full-length features, and I plan to present them accordingly.

My FDIC-2010 experience ranks up there with some of the greatest memories of my career and life. Full of laughs (my stomach still…

New truck woe's....Just venting.......

Our department just purchased new truck from Philiadelphia. On our way back with it from Philly, it broke down on the turn pike! 100 miles from the next exit!! The repair men robed us blind to fix it. All it was, was a blown antifreeze hose. He came out and messured it, went back to his shop, came back to put it on, cut it to short, so had to go back to his shop and do it again! Charged us for every trip he made and his mistakes as well. but he had us by the balls, Since we were from out of… Continue
