i feel the pain ive been out of work the last two weeks and i can't even go to the station right now cause i know i will forget about the pulled musles in my lower back and go to it. things happen for a reason though and things will get better for us and back to action we will go

Good to hear about your father. Just a side bar. I've been laid up for three weeks now. Had emergency lower back surgury. Doing much better now. Only thing I can do is listen to calls on the scanner. Really sucks but oh well. Bulldozer I don't know of any local jobs here that are hiring. You can look online at FireHouse.com might find something there. Stay safe

Everyone showing up for calls and dinners...you will see that theme repeated over and over on this forum. It is very common. What to do about it... There is no simple answer, and alienating members who don't show up for training, but do for calls can be hazardous to the health of the department. If they don't show up for calls, you may not even have a first-out crew, let alone the extra crews needed to handle something bigger than a shed fire. They need to show up for training, but you may have to entice them. Some people forget that the VFD isn't paying these peoples bills. It also isn't taking care of their families. In the department that I am attached to (but not active), family and job comes first. Few have the privilege of not having to work for a living, and everyone has a family. It is a VERY family oriented group. Parting words...get used to it, do your own best, and STAY SAFE!
