Fire and Security Protection In Fire Stations

A recent fire in a fire station in North Carolina resulted in loss of a building and fire apparatus. You have to wonder, should there a NFPA requirement for systems to protection the building and apparatus within? Most new fire stations are having sprinklers systems built in as the buildings go up or in areas where they are required by law for new construction. Should they be required in buildings that have stood for time or in areas where sprinkler or other protections systems have not been…See More

Fire Station Design

I was wondering how many cities or county fire services have used the same design of station in their communities. Back in the 70s the county where I live used the same design for three stations in three different communities. Now in the past few years they have started using a new station design for station replacement and stations in areas where stations have been needed with additional stations to come. Most stations in other areas have been built by design to fit the location or added on…See More

Citizen Support Groups

Most volunteer departments usually look for new recruits to join their department if they are citizens but how many department would allow citizens to form a group to support their efforts that does not require them to be emergency providers. Fire Corps has been one type of group that have many tasks they could do for a department from apparatus cleaning or repair, raising funds, and helping with paperwork etc.. At one time I heard of a group of citizens that wanted to help a department by…See More

Ladder Trucks For Vehicle Extrication

I was wondering if any departments carry extrication tools on their ladder truck for vehicle extrication. Some departments carry the same items on both a squad and a ladder truck just that a squad would carry the tools which a truck might not in some departments. Some departments might do it to save money on having two different vehicles.See More

ATVs And Tractors

Some depts. are have added ATVs into their fire and rescue operations for areas where some off road vehicles can't go. Some are rigged out for just fire use and others for rescue recovery operations or combination of both. I have heard on some brush calls in our area there are calls for ATVs when brush trucks are not enough. Now I have seen where some citizens have rigged out compact and farm tractors with three point hitch pods that carry water tanks with plows  mounted under the tank. Another…See More

Rescue Squads That Add Firefighting.

I recently seen a Facebook posting about a rescue squad that took over firefighting responsibilities in their area when the fire dept. shut down because of problems. They had to add a couple of pumpers and train for them. I have  also know of a rescue squad that decided to add fire service for protection of their area years ago. Now these two depts. have rescue and fire has part of their depts. name instead of fire and rescue.I also know of a rescue squad that added a rescue pumper to their…See More

Anyone That Lives In Georgia Or Hunts For Old Fire Apparatus?

Posted on June 28, 2009 at 9:30am 0 Comments

I am trying to find a old fire unit that belonged to the Ambrose Fire Department in Coffee County.

Its a 1967 Ford F500 4x4 open cab brush and rescue combo built by the Young Fire Apparatus Company. The unit has bench seating where a hose bed would be.

The unit was built for the Allentown Road Volunteer Fire Dept and used by the department from 1967 until 1971 and sold to a fire dept in Pennsylvania which later sold the unit to Ambrose. I have heard that the unit was put out of… Continue

Thanks for replying to my blog regarding Auxiliary Information. What I am looking for is, our Department currently has three status' for membership, Active FF, Associate FF and Administrative Members. Because we have them set up this way our Admin members are required to do some training activities. We have a very limited roster of FFs, I am currently the Fire Police for the department. We had a gentlemen approach the department wanting to be a member to only perform Fire Police duties, so it would prevent me from having to direct traffic and then I could use my skills and training to actually fight fire or provide patient care.

He also helps out a couple of the other departments in the area with traffic control and photography. We were told that if we wrote a short amendment to our Constitution adding an Auxiliary membership status that we could put our Fire Police under that and they wouldn't be held to the training standards like our Active FFs or Admin members.

I am sure I have rambled a little but I have been having a difficult time trying to figure out how to word it for our Constitution. I just have way too many things going on. LOL

Thanks again for offering your advice. TCSS ~Tammy~
