ashfire replied to Chris Kennedy's discussion Why is a firehouse called a firehouse?
"How about the word warehouse where wares are stored or maybe where wares are sold.  I have also heard of people using the word barn as in Fire Barn for storage of fire equipment."

Anyone That Lives In Georgia Or Hunts For Old Fire Apparatus?

Posted on June 28, 2009 at 9:30am 0 Comments

I am trying to find a old fire unit that belonged to the Ambrose Fire Department in Coffee County.

Its a 1967 Ford F500 4x4 open cab brush and rescue combo built by the Young Fire Apparatus Company. The unit has bench seating where a hose bed would be.

The unit was built for the Allentown Road Volunteer Fire Dept and used by the department from 1967 until 1971 and sold to a fire dept in Pennsylvania which later sold the unit to Ambrose. I have heard that the unit was put out of… Continue

Thanks for replying to my blog regarding Auxiliary Information. What I am looking for is, our Department currently has three status' for membership, Active FF, Associate FF and Administrative Members. Because we have them set up this way our Admin members are required to do some training activities. We have a very limited roster of FFs, I am currently the Fire Police for the department. We had a gentlemen approach the department wanting to be a member to only perform Fire Police duties, so it would prevent me from having to direct traffic and then I could use my skills and training to actually fight fire or provide patient care.

He also helps out a couple of the other departments in the area with traffic control and photography. We were told that if we wrote a short amendment to our Constitution adding an Auxiliary membership status that we could put our Fire Police under that and they wouldn't be held to the training standards like our Active FFs or Admin members.

I am sure I have rambled a little but I have been having a difficult time trying to figure out how to word it for our Constitution. I just have way too many things going on. LOL

Thanks again for offering your advice. TCSS ~Tammy~

Ashfire, welcome to the FF Nation. I am glad you dropped in to join the group. Another Oregon Firefighter here is great. Dont be shy. There is lots to do, read and be involved with. Your participation and involvement is important to us all. Takes a bit to kinda figure it all out but you will be glad you did. Have fun and look around.
