The dept. I belong to is strickly volunteer and where I am from considered a non-profit organization, so our funds for equipment and such comes from fund raising and our weekly bingo games, Which does help us keep our heads above water. However we are looking to purchase some newer turnout gear and SCBA's and our fund raising has stalled. So if anyone out there has any newer ideas for us please reply

On the day of our fundraiser, the local Car Club has their car show, then we have a hot beef feed with live music/dancing, silent auction, 50/50 drawings, gun raffles and kids activites. Lot going on at once, but you prepare well and kick everything out in one day. Usually $3-5K. Helps to "promote" what you are raising your money for. Our ambulance does a Free Will Donation pancake breakfast that always does well. People are much more "generous" for a good cause than if you tell them $5/person.
We turn the firehall into a Haunted House for the month of October each year.

We put on a concert with the local talent in the community performing.

Our 3rd fundraiser is a carshow/motorcycle poker run.
We are currently working on a Firefighters Ball. Selling dinner and dance tickets to select folks in the community. I hope to get a big shot for the members Assoc. out of it. If it is successful we will make it an Annual event. Live Band, Outcry Auction and Silent Auction. Trying to build a members fund in case someone gets wounded during a call. It can be a Black Tie affair but to start it will be casual dress and grow from there. Our members Assoc. also donates for needed equipment to the department that doesn't fit the budget.
My Department does a road block in our town one weekend a year. We also do a Chicken BBQ, and a Mailout Letter to the community asking for donations.
My department just finished with a raffel for a 3 day / 2 night stay at the beach and made $1400. Everything was donated so all the money collected went straight to our department. I have plans of organizing a 5k race in the fall for our next fund raiser.
Hey Jason we do a golf tournement, and a Turkey, ham, beef raffle. Along with a Carnival, and a mid winter bbq. hope that helps

Im on a department in a town of about 800 people, we do an anual steak fry where the fire fighters do the grilling cooking and serving, for a small town we do really well, we charge 15 bucks for a steak dinner you get a potatoe corn dinner roll and steak, we also offer kids meal hot dog or buger. we also do calanders every year we sell adverising on it and that how we make money, we for free deliver it to every one in our coverage area.

Wow that is an awesome idea..will have to bring that up at our next meeting

We will be holding a water fight during our community fair....30 gal beere keg partally full with water.on a cable that goes between two poles the object is th first 3 out of 5 gets the win...you use 1 3/4 line for each team as they try to push th keg from one end to the middle whre the othr team on the other side tries the same..good chance for th community to play with the equipment under a supervised senario and a great fundraiser...where i used to live they did this..200$ per team of 5 no limit on the amount of teams then they split the pot 50/50..plus winner got bragging rights...it was a big deal in our small town...coalinga california..i am sure if you called the dpt they would fill you in on the specifics

good thinkin

wow a 5 good job

One thing that has been very succesful for us is a yearly golf outing. We charge so much per team and then have so much per hole sponsors. Besides sponsors donating money we also have prizes donated. We also incorperated a hog raffle into it one year and it did really well, but the newness wore out and we decided to drop it after the second year.
