Once you've loved a firefighter...

Once you've loved a firefighter... you love all firefighters. I remember hardly noticing those fire trucks as they raced pass me. Now I see them on every corner. Not too long ago, I was unaffected by news stories involving firefighter rescues.. now I am riveted by them. It is so easy to detach yourself when it is not your loved one on TV. But if you have loved ones in the fire service, it becomes personal. It is so hard to watch that blaze on your local news channel, knowing your loved one is… Continue

The Paper Is Done (Almost)

Anyone who has ever had to do a research paper for the Executive Fire Officer program knows the feeling (or any paper with a strict time limit, for that matter). You EFOites know the drill: Month 1- leave class with all intentions of saving the world; Month 2- finished lit review, all is well!; Month 3- stuff came up at work, need to get the budget finished, I've got some time left...Month 4- more stuff, I can get this done in a few days; Month 5- okay, I need to buckle down. Then, several…

My Life

I WISH YOU COULD

I wish you could see the sadness of a businessman as his livelihood goes up in flames, or that of a family returning home only to find their house and belongings destroyed.

I wish you could know what it is like to search a burning bedroom for trapped children, flames rolling above your head, the floor sagging under your weight as the kitchen beneath you burns.

I wish you could comprehend a wife's horror at 3 a.m. as I check her…

Laws of EMS

First Law of EMS:

The EMS Law of Time and Distance:

The distance of the call from the hospital increases as the time to shift change decreases.

Corollary 1 - The shortest distance between the

station and the scene is under construction.

The EMS…

You know what would be GREAT.......

..... would be if either A.) all of us on our respective FD's were psychic, OR B.) everyone on the department would just say what they mean. Really.

Welcome to my world!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my page. I was brought to this site by a friend of mine. I have been in EMS for about 7 years, going up through the ranks starting with First Responder. I got my medic license almost 4 years ago and haven't looked back since. I love my job and where I work (although I don't agree with everything that goes on there, I have been very happy there), although I currently struggle with several issues. I have problems with my partner and I'm struggling with my… Continue

Lieutenant Robert Battease (Rest in Peace my Fallen Brother)

3-3-5 is the worst sound a firefighter could ever hear. On that fateful day in June when the sound of the ringing bell came across my ears, I was stricken with grief. Lieutenant Robert Battease was gone and never coming back. To this day I still miss him dearly and wish I had just one more chance to say goodbye.

So Bob...thanks for always having my back, you know what I mean by that. I…
