A firefighter is a hero,
in control right from the start
acting with courage and honor
and every ounce of heart.
A firefighter is a hero,
who tirelessly faces danger
and risk their life and safety
in pursuit to help a stranger.
It is this courage,
this inner strength,
we view with admiration
and thank them
with our hearts and souls,
as they proudly
serve our nation.

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children fell to discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck." A third child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."…

All daddies are special in their own way.
Some daddies ride tractors and work on a farm.
Some daddies drive fire trucks and sound the alarm.
Some daddies are great chefs and can make dessert.
Some daddies play the bagpipes and wear a plaid skirt!
Daddies can do a lot of things.
What does your daddy do?
Some daddies drive noisy tanks that growl and grumble.
Some daddies fly jet planes that roar and rumble.
Some daddies hike in forests…

Well Christmas and New Years have come and gone like a bad date for me, don’t get me wrong I like the holidays but, for some reason god likes to watch me fix cars on holidays for example this xmas I replaced coil packs, an EGR valve, wires, plugs, upper and lower ball joints (those suck), and its still not running right, that’s not even the worse part. Xmas morning at 1:30am we get dinged for mutual aid on a house…

I'd like to hear from other "members" who are interested in writing...perhaps a book they've always had in their head or just short stories or stories of incidents they's experienced on-the-job as a fireman, Police officer or EMT...anything at all really...
Everybody has a "war story" to tell and it's fun to hear these...some exciting, some sad and many of them funny as hell.
I write stories about life in a small NH town during the fifties. But my son is a police…

I use upoc, first alert network, and incident paging system to monitor emergnecy incidents in Western PA.
Feel free to notify me of any working incidents that you are aware of. If I am avaialble and can get there quickly enough, I will respond and take some photos of the incident. Understand that many FD's now carry camera's on their rigs. However, when the beast is raging, your crews have work to do. Let me and my cameras document your work.

Just returned home from our first fire call of 2008. 14 years of firefighter experience, training and dedication...... Yeah you guessed it - a carbon monoxide alarm. Not just a carbon monoxide alarm, a bad battery in a carbon monoxide detector. Can't get more exciting than that. Sure, the rookies were thrilled, packs on - CO detectors in hand - helmets in place. I even had to drive because all my engine pump operators were still celebrating the effects of New Years…
