Blog of Caution

I am writing this to make you all aware of a potentially serious health problem that can take you by surprise.

Six weeks ago today I was diagnosed with acute angle closure glaucoma. Glaucoma is defined as a buildup of pressure inside the eyeball. The aqueous humor, which is the replaceable liquid inside the eye, cannot drain properly thus…

Fire Funerals

We lost the dogs. We lost the poles. Now federal regulations are curtailing carrying a coffin on a hose bed. Check out how Detroit Forefighters are handling the new regulations. The Detroit Firemens Fund is restoring a 1937 Seagrave pumper to be used to carry our members on that last run with dignity and class. Check out my running mates website to see the restoration project.Go to www.detroitfirefighters.com

A FIREMAN'S LITTLE GIRL

A Fireman's Little Girl

I am very dedicated to my work. I wear firefighter shirts every day, even when I’m not on duty. The fire department is my second home, and my second family. It often seems as if my life revolves around the fire department, but it means nothing compared to my little girl. I am normally a very…

THE FIREFIGHTER'S WIFE

The table's set, the meal's prepared, our guests will soon arrive.

My husband once more disappears with a hope of keeping a child alive.

While waiting at home again alone, our plans having gone awry.

My first impulse is merely to sit down and cry.

But soon again I realize the importance of my life,

when I agreed to take on the duties of being a fireman's wife.

While there are many drawbacks, I'll take them in my stride.…

TO ALL FIREFIGHTERS

I DID NOT WRITE THIS BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS APPROPRIATE

With your heads held high you see the fire

and still you walk through the door,

When the last flames are doused and another home is spared

is it something you are always thanked for?

Another call comes in and you pull up to find

a twisted wreckage on the freeway,

So with your skillful hands you work so hard and another life is saved

yet again I wonder did a thank you come your…

WE ARE FIREFIGHTERS

We are firefighters

A cry in the night a flash of light

The wail of a bell the fires of hell

Have come to claim main and destroy

The burning of a child's toy, devil's sick ploy

The engines turn a fight to spurn this sick plan

Sirens call out a great commotion a shout

We're coming hold on

Don't give up, fight. We…

A FIREFIGHTER

A firefighter is a hero,
in control right from the start
acting with courage and honor
and every ounce of heart.
A firefighter is a hero,
who tirelessly faces danger
and risk their life and safety
in pursuit to help a stranger.
It is this courage,
this inner strength,
we view with admiration
and thank them
with our hearts and souls,
as they proudly
serve our nation.

PREGNANT?

Pregnant?

"Give me a sentence about a public servant", said the teacher. The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked. "Sure",…

WHY THEY USE DALMATIONS

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children fell to discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck." A third child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."…

IF DADDY SAYS GOOD BYE

All daddies are special in their own way.

Some daddies ride tractors and work on a farm.

Some daddies drive fire trucks and sound the alarm.

Some daddies are great chefs and can make dessert.

Some daddies play the bagpipes and wear a plaid skirt!

Daddies can do a lot of things.

What does your daddy do?

Some daddies drive noisy tanks that growl and grumble.

Some daddies fly jet planes that roar and rumble.

Some daddies hike in forests…

LIFE OF A FIREMAN

life of a fireman A Fireman's Life

A fireman's life is one big surprise,

Usually he laughs, sometimes he cries.

There's always stress, toil and strife,

Hoping he's good enough to save just one life.

His wife understands, when he misses dinner,

If he runs out of church, don't think he's a sinner.

Answering a…

Holidays are like bad dates.

Well Christmas and New Years have come and gone like a bad date for me, don’t get me wrong I like the holidays but, for some reason god likes to watch me fix cars on holidays for example this xmas I replaced coil packs, an EGR valve, wires, plugs, upper and lower ball joints (those suck), and its still not running right, that’s not even the worse part. Xmas morning at 1:30am we get dinged for mutual aid on a house…

Blackie's Blog

I'd like to hear from other "members" who are interested in writing...perhaps a book they've always had in their head or just short stories or stories of incidents they's experienced on-the-job as a fireman, Police officer or EMT...anything at all really...

Everybody has a "war story" to tell and it's fun to hear these...some exciting, some sad and many of them funny as hell.

I write stories about life in a small NH town during the fifties. But my son is a police…

WSF leads

I use upoc, first alert network, and incident paging system to monitor emergnecy incidents in Western PA.

Feel free to notify me of any working incidents that you are aware of. If I am avaialble and can get there quickly enough, I will respond and take some photos of the incident. Understand that many FD's now carry camera's on their rigs. However, when the beast is raging, your crews have work to do. Let me and my cameras document your work.
