Top Issues Facing Responders:
Lack of understanding of what it is that we do, and lack of enthusiasm on the part of some members to change that perception. Another big sore point is the lack of guidance being shown to new members of the service by older hands. You are there to guide the new ones, just as someone guided you when you first began.

You've got to be kidding.....Right?

Posted on April 27, 2008 at 9:45pm 6 Comments

Okay, here we go again. As if the H&R Block commercials weren't bad enough, NOW Arby's has a commercial out that shows an ambulance crew giving food to treat people. It's no wonder everyone takes EMS for granted when they see things like this. We in EMS have to start pulling together to combat these comic stereotypes. It should not matter whether you are in public or private service, paid or volunteer, you are an EMT first and foremost. This bickering going on in the service NEEDS TO… Continue

Where is our compassion?

Posted on March 20, 2008 at 5:13pm 3 Comments

I've just finished reading a story of a 10 year-old Lincoln Nebraska girl who is dying from brain cancer. She has had only one wish, and that is to see her daddy. Problem is, daddy is in federal prison in SD on meth charges. Now don't get me wrong, I have absolutely NO compassion for the dad, but my heart breaks for his little girl, who just wants her daddy to be there when she dies. Apparently the Federal Bureau of Prisons is giving the family the runaround about letting him come home for this… Continue

Public Apology for one idiot's actions

Posted on March 11, 2008 at 10:00pm 2 Comments

After viewing the news tonight, I feel compelled to apologize to all animal lovers and the public in general for the actions of one Marine(?) that were so totally out of line that his family has actually received death threats. The video, which was found on Youtube, shows several Marines gathered around a comrade who was holding a puppy, which he then proceeded to throw off a cliff. Folks, this is not tolerated in MY Marine Corps. I am ashamed that this individual actually claims to be a… Continue

FAITH

Posted on March 11, 2008 at 4:23pm 7 Comments

Faith means different things to different people. Most say it's belief in the Almighty, or God. Some will tell you it's sticking to your belief's even when in doubt. These are all true. Faith for us is belief in yourself, and belief in your brothers and sisters in the service. It is an unspoken commitment to one another that says "I'll be there for you and watch your back, and I know you'll do the same for me." It is knowing that, if you are hurt, trapped, or in any kind of trouble or danger,… Continue

Fallen Brothers

Posted on March 9, 2008 at 6:30pm 0 Comments

Well, two more of our brothers have fallen in the line of duty. The two firefighters, one 19, and one 40, were killed fighting a 5-alarm blaze in a mill in Salisbury NC. Three other firefighters were injured trying to rescue them. Our hearts go out to their families and brothers in Salisbury. We share their pain and loss.

This is also the time to stop and remind ourselves that, there but for the grace of God, go I. This is a situation that could happen to any of us at any time. I know that… Continue
