Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I joined Tea Fire & Rescue to be a positive role model in my community. The brotherhood and friendships that you build through the department are irreplaceable.
Alan,
The simple way that I know of is get in contact with your local USFS, BLM, National Parks and find out who has wildland crews. Once you find them apply for a temp position as a fire crew member. They will get you red carded and get you the experience. Pay is not much but the life is great. Next best bet would to be to contact NIFC in Boise. (on the web) they may be able to help. The fire season is near the end now and they will be laying off personnel soon. But it is important to build the relationship and get on their list for spring. Good luck.
Hi Alan- Thanks for seeking me out to add as your friend. I write a blog called FireDaily.com and co-host the internet's fastest-growing internet radio show for firefighters called Firefighter NetCast. I've been in the fire service for 30 years, 20 as a paramedic. Please let me know a little about yourself and stay in touch. P.S. Each time our family has been in SD, we had a blast- We envy your area!
WOW-thats AWESOME about your son !!! Congrats!! and on behalf of the women firefighters of America we are glad you feel that way about us...glad you wouldn't hesitate to fight fires with us again. So you took classes through MFRI thats cool !! So how long ago was it that you were here? and where exactly ?
