Brookings Fire Chief Sharp retires
Well my friends. It is time for this Fire Chief to move on into the next phase of my life. I had planned to retire in January of 2013 and move up to Alaska to be near my daughter and grandchildren. Of course I would find something to do with myself and stay out of trouble. Well, this past weekend I received a call from a friend offering me a job. The end result is that they need me to be there in Anchorage Alaska to start work Sept 15. So I will retire from my career as Fire Chief with Brookings Fire/Rescue these 20 years and pass the torch on to my Asst Chief on Sept 5th. I will leave Brookings to drive up to Alaska on Sept 8th. I believe it will take me about 4 days to drive my truck pulling my trailer to Anchorage. I dont know after that how much time or ability I will have to contribute to this great family of friends. I dont know about my access to the internet but I hope that I will still have the opportunity to still come on here and contribute and add my 10 dollars (2 cents dosnt cover it anymore). I have really enjoyed the interaction and friendships Ive developed here. By next summer I'll have my wife moved up there with me and be settled in the Southwest area of Alaska. If you want to come visit me and take a vacation. Just come on up. Ide be happy to see you. So, after Sept we will see what my life brings me and my ability to be here. Thank you one and all for your support and friendship. KEEP UP THE FIGHT AND STAY SAFEISH!!!!

When I first joined this site, your welcome post was the first thing I read, like so many others I am sure.
Thank you for that!
I read with much interest many of your posts and comments, and always knew you brought intelligence, common sense, and experience to the table. There are some members who visit here and contribute on a regular basis who I have the utmost respect for, and you sir are indeed one of those members.
I know with a significant amount of certainty - that there is indeed internet service in Anchorage lol. I visited that beautiful city 2-3 weeks after 911, and seeing the American brothers and sisters grieving, yet at the same time, being so accomodating to a couple of Canadian firefighters, is something I won't soon forget.
I wish you all the success in your new adventure. I would hope ( and expect) you to continue contributing here, afterall.. once a firefighter..always a firefighter.

Congrats on making retirement, hope you get to run that pension all the way out. Not sure why you'd pick Alaska as opposed to...I dunno, FLA, but good luck with it, hope the winters are mild ones.

Jack, my Daughter and grand kids are in Soldotna Alaska. Thats why we are moving up there. my retirement is enough that I dont even have to think about work but I will work to keep myself occupied and busy. Less trouble that way. LOL!

Thank you all of you for your kind words an support. Life has settled down a bit here in Soldotna AK. I am working as a Security Officer at the hospital here. I enjoy the contact with people an the opportunity to continue my career helping people an being of service. Great place to work. Getting ready to hunker down for another Alaska Winter.
