Fire fighter REHAB

Posted on July 25, 2011 at 1:16pm 0 Comments

I am exploring the possibility of entering the side of FF Rehab while I heal from a knee injury last spring but I'm not sure how great the opportunity is. Last time I did rehab work was in high school when I couldn't go interior. So I'm no stranger but feel there's so much to learn about just rehab programs in FD. Our department is in the process of creating a medical surveillance program and with my EMS background, this would be something new and exciting to place on FD resume. But again,…

Introducing your new RECRUIT

Posted on April 12, 2011 at 12:32pm 1 Comment

After much anticipation on getting a final phone call from the Fire Department, I was told on Friday that I had been accepted into Recruit Volunteer school, Sunday was orientation and paperwork and last night was first night of Wildland school! Talk about fast paced! I found myself wanting to soak up everything I can training wise like I was 18 again! But this was not possible without the support of friends, family and FFN....so thank you!

CPAT in 3 weeks!!!

Posted on February 26, 2011 at 10:04pm 2 Comments

I just recieved a phone call today from a training officer inviting me to test for their volunteer ranks and found out that the written test is just 3 days before the CPAT and in about a month I would be starting recruit school. However I have never had to take the CPAT before because I was granfathered into my old department on that before they started requiring the CPAT in the district. I know what's on it and stuff but what is the best way to prepare for it in such a short time? Remember I… Continue

Firefighter 1 certification

Hey Guys,

I have long debated whether I should pursue my FF 1 certification too. Eventually I would love to work as a Flight medic or a FF/Medic but I haven't totally decided yet. Until the next medic class cycle starts in Jan 2013, I have some time to to get pre-reqs and a FF1 completed. My biggest obtacle is finding the time to complete a FF1 Academy without quitting my current (non Fire/EMS) job. I've done some research on different FF1 programs and keep coming across this…

Career change....FF/Paramedic or Paramedic

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 4:15pm 1 Comment

Recently, I have enrolled in a community college that offers both Fire Science and Paramedic degrees at night. It works perfect with my current work schedule until I complete both degrees and make a career change back into Fire/EMS full time. Although I am stoked to do this, I just found out that the F.S. program does not include the IFSAC FF1 certification. I have long debated whether I wanted to go just into EMS first and later add Firefighting if that's where I fel I needed to be. The…
