i hate funerals...

i know that no one really likes funerals but today i went to a really emotional one... A junior firefighter lost her daddy tuesday morning to a massive heart attack and we as the junior firefighters went to the funeralvisitation to support her... I think it was the hardest thing i have ever had to do, even harder than the funeral for family members i have been to recently..

The man was a decorated war veteran and immediately when you walk in you see the honor guard men walking around…

Charity Work Injury

Ok so in the louisville area in kentucky we do a thing called the WHAS crusade for children, in which the fire departments have road blocks and do door-to-door to collect money to benefit children whose families cant afford the medical care needed, research to help childhood diseases and equipment to help special needs children live a fairly normal life. The fire departments collect the money in their district for a week bringing out the sirens and lights to each house. Then on sunday they go… Continue

Cpr class gone wrong....

ok we had our junior meeting tonight and we were getting our certification in adult cpr. We got instructors from the red cross to teach the class. Well the first thing we learned was how to care for a conscious choking victim who's not breathing. Our president of the juniors (head advisers son) who is a a larger guy and his partner asked what to do to care for a person of his size since his partner could not get his arms around him in the correct technique.

Well one of the… Continue

oldest operating firehouse in united states is scheduled to close

As a resident of shelby county right next to the huge city of louisville, i really would rather not see engine 7 close down. Engine 7 started serving louisville in 1871 while ulysses s. grant was president. Mayor Jerry ambramson said this would help balance a 20 million revenue shortfall by louisville city government. Its estimated this will save about 1 million dollars annually and since there are 6 other firehouses in a 2 mile radius it should not pose a problem to response times.

The 24… Continue

Parade problems...

Well the first parade went off perfectly other than our head adviser having the flu and everyone getting mild frostbite. Basically we froze our tails off.
