ok so we finally had our smoke out training....
Firefighters from the city (shelbyville) came and taught us right hand search and how to do it correctly andafter a little practice we were put in groups and in we went....(They used fake smoke and it was so cool, you breathed it in and it was just like air but you couldn't see 2 feet around you) We had full gear and packs with air... in groups of 3
Now we were told that the scenario was neighbor called and she knew two people lived there.... Well everything was good until we found our first victim, 8 month old baby... His mama was in there holding him (she wasn't a victim in this scenario) so james (lead guy) picked him up and i held his head until we got back to the door. I was terrified of trying to get this baby out, they never told us the best way to do this.... this baby was screaming but we got him to the door and his mama gave him a popscicle so all was good.
Went back in for second victim, found him... (cant remember wat position he was in) ... Well this is where i messed up, i raised up off my knees so i was squatting so i could use my legs to lift him better and the advisers said since i raised up too far i was considered down. I really thought that i would be ok since i was still low but apparently thats not how it works.... so the rest of my team got our victim out and sent the team waiting in to get me, my alarm was screaming......im a lot more comfortable with the guys now..
Im really glad i did this without panicking or anything... I thought i would be claustrophobic but i was singing and chewing gum so i was fine.. I did ;learn several things
1. my bunkers are too small
2, dont lose the wall
3. trust your partners
4. Gear weighs a lot more at the end of a drill than it does at the beginning
5. DONT STAND UP!!!!!
and prolly about a million other things i cant list.....
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice.... yall are amazing ppl
