Jessica, I can remember my first fire, I was so nervous driving a tanker and I keep chocking it down trying to leave the building....lol...so we all have had our moments.....Just apply what you have learned and you will go far...Good luck to ya ..

Jessica, this is a great blog. I have had those moments where i forgot all my training on a fire scene. My first fire i was told to change out a bottle and my mind went blank. Five years later and alot of help from the veteran firefighters on my department, i still dont know everything. Right when you think you know everything something new hits you. You just have to keep an open mind in this business. Great blog and keep up the good work. Stay Safe.

I agree with Jay, wise beyond your years. I wish some of our more "experienced" ff's remembered rule #1. I am just coming up on 3 years myself, it's still a rush, isn't it? Stay safe.

Ya, watch out for the insulation and other crap that gets on your gloves and bunkers, it'll itch the skin like crazy. But anyway, congrats.

Jessica, thats great! I remember my first structure fire too. almost 30 years ago. Your thoughts and impressions are good. We all get excited, scared and forget things. Thats why we train. That way the things we learn in training become repetitious so that we do what we do by reflex in those moments where the brain isnt engaged and we get all excited. Well done! Keep up the good work. Hope to hear of more.

Jessica,Congrats on your first fire scene.I was taken by your comment,I don't know as much as I thought I did/need to learn more.Jay's right,you keep that in back of your mind.It don't matter how many years of service you have,you can always learn something new in this business!You will learn to channel your nervousness in due time.Good luck and be safe.

Wise beyond your years grasshopper. If you keep #1 in your mind, you will go far in your life and in the Fire Service.
