Common sense . . . and a lil prepardness

Common sense goes a long way in our profession. From scene size up to not picking up a hot metal rod without a glove on, common sense goes a long way. I have been in the fire service for only 12 yrs. For 11 of those 12 i was in my own home town. 100% rural america in western New York state. We used common sense everyday and we prepard for winter storms, summer heat, and everything in btwn. Im a type that wants to be ready for as much as i can be ready for. Im not just talking fires car… Continue

Give Thanks

Let us all pray and let our hearts be with those brother ans sister members and firefighter/emts that are in the southern states during the recent storms. Often we forget that we may be fortunate enough to have decent weather, good fortune, and our health. My thoughts and prayers go out to those that have lost homes, memories, family members or freinds. Stay safe god bless!

IN THE ZONE... LCES (#2 28 APRIL 2011) - Fire Engineering Training Community

interface areas

already this year. Two firefighters injured in North Central Nebraska, A firefighter injured in Arizona, Two

firefighters killed and I believe the total injured at one point

was 8 firefighters on separate incidents here in Texas. And I have

been wondering what is…

Reading smoke

The type of smoke seen upon arrival is vital to the call, as is time of day, building type, etc. Is there a standard  approach to viewing smoke. (example)...heavy black smoke is...X   light grey smoke is...X. I know that this cannot be set in stone, however a general idea is a starting point.

On the side of the road 4/26

I have been off duty since Feb 14th of this year ,when I experienced acute chest pain and shortness of Breath during the performance of the required Physical ability retesting  by my Department .
