everything around here is mainly farm ground and this field appeared to be thick uncut grass for haying or something...plenty of fuel.

ouch, sounds like it...almost all of our response area is flat ground.

We've had about a dozen grassfire calls where I am and we've had a burn ban in place for about a week and a half

Be careful what you wish for there Chris...finally got dry weather and also got our first grass fire too...not to mention one just a couple miles outside our jurisdiction too, and that was just today.

Afternoon Crew, NWS just issued a Red Flag warning for our area until 19:00 tonight. Hopefully the idiots will stay inside today.
