Good Morning Ladies, I am new to this group but I have been in the fire service for MANY years. In the 70s they didn't let girls join volunteer departments in this area so I didn't actually become a fire fighter until the mid 80s. Before that I was the Chief's niece, the brat, on the ladies auxiliary and such but they let me wash hoses, fire trucks & windows. BEFORE hose washers & rubber jackets. :(

I saw a comment that said it was hard being in a man's world and that is right. No matter how long you are a fire fighter, as a woman you still have to prove to the men that you are there to do the job and that you CAN & WILL do what it takes to get it done.
In a volunteer department people come & go, both men & women. We have had as many as 10 women on our roster @ 1 time & then dwindle down to 1, me. And I'm hanging in for the duration.

Firefighting is awesome. But working in a man's world is a little difficult, but worth it. Having to prove yourself everyday is a challenge. But in a Department that cares is everything to me.

hey Leanne, pushing is the surefire way to lose him. If you have a little less time for him, I would bet that isn't going to hurt his feelings at all. Giving a guy some room, especially in the beginning, instead of trying to nail him down right away can go a long way... and let's be honest, if he won't wait, does it matter how much you like him? Better to meet someone who would, no?? Good luck!
