Don't let it bother you when I first joined my dept I weighed 120lbs and now 5yrs later and over 200lbs it is kinda embarrassing but I look at it this way as long as I am doing my job to help what does it matter!!!! I have a great family in our dept. I am just like one of the guys... I hope your dept is like that cause I tell you something if anyone ever tried to say anything bad about me I know the guys would fight for me. That is what you do for family!!!!!!!!!

How does one over come the feeling of being to big and feeling bad if they have to order bigger bunkker gear/wild land gear?? I can still obviously do everything everyone else can, but sometimes i get the impression from another dept, that people look down on me.

Your size does not matter. When I first started I weighed 125 and if there WAS something I couldn't do, like use the large spreader/cutters, my brothers would always be there for me. Other then that I like to do it on my own. If you really love it you will be fine. THat's what a family is for. :-)

I have been very fortunate that only one of our firefighters have had issues with me being in the department. I get down and dirty just like they do. I pull my weight. I just keep going on and enjoying helping people.
