About 30 hours from my BS in Fire Science. Online through Columbia Southern University. Good program so far. I got a good head start with my military training.

Glad to see that the fire service is finally understanding the benifits of higher education. Years ago it was more difficult for firefighters to attend college due to their work schedule. Today there are several options with on-line degrees programs and increase in local community college campuses. Over half of the firefighters on my department are in school at some level and or graduated from college with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree. I have a BSBA and currently working on an MBA and will finish by the end of this year. I'm also certified as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO). Good luck to all who are attending college and to all who finished! Good Job.

Hello. I just happened upon this group, and thought I'd check it out. I don't have my degree yet, but I was recently accepted to the Nursing program of Kent State University, East Liverpool, Ohio campus. The major reason I became a volunteer fireman was to gain field experience in the EMS area, knowing that is would make me a better nurse in the long run.

I finished on line classes in november of 2008, from Kieser University in Florida, earning an Assoc Degree in Fire Science. Having a degree makes some things go a little easier, and I think it also gives just a little bit more respect to every one with a degree in a position of authority.
