Levi: Part of the problem today is for the past 30-40-years the world and particularly the U.S. has turned to money and material wealth. We have developed a mind set that we are so technologically advanced that we are our own creation. The Bible tells us that in the last days there will be an increase in knowledge. The industrialized world has become unbelieving idiots because God doesn't make appearances in domed stadiums and perform miracles for entertainment and "proof" that he exist. Wide is the way that leads to destruction but narrow is way that leads to life and few that find it. Be strong in your faith and remember this is not our home, we are only passing thru this world briefly to get to our eternal home.

Why are people so against having faith in god? It seems like everywhere i go there is a person who has something bad to say about the faith. Since when has having faith been a bad thing and how often does faith create someone or something evil? Its an extreme privilege to be a part of this group . I read posts on here every morning and i have to say it makes my day seem a little brighter. Thank you all and god bless.

l1tilr and Russ, thank you. Thank you again Russ for your post today. It reminded me of a parable I heard some time back. Do you have to get cleaned up to take a bath? God bless you all. Keep the faith and stay safe.

John, thank you! Bill, baptism does not save you and you wont go to hell if you don't. It is done as an obedience thing. Look here;

Matt 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
NIV

Also the greek translation from the word "bapto" which means to cover wholly with a fluid, to moisten or to stain. A derivited word "baptizmo" translates to immerse, submerge. So you can see how both methods came about. I was taught as a kid that the original baby sprinkle was to ward off spirits or evil that the parents may have brought to the baby. Have never been able to confirm or deny that.

Good morning! How are we faithing? With this train our mind conversation were having this week, let me ask some questions. Do you think you must be a better person to accept the gift of salvation? Do you think that you have to improve in order to receive and be worthy of redemption? Do you think you will loose that redemption if YOU don't get better? Wrong, wrong, wrong! You get better when you concentrate on Jesus and the Word. You can't be good enough or get good enough to be worthy, only his grace makes us worthy so stop striving for perfection and whoopin your own tail when you fail. This whole thing isn't about anything you can do or not do. The reaction to this faith is you improve not the other way around. Do you arrive at work then walk? Do you go outside then open the front door? Change your thinking from "I failed therefore I am no good" to "I'll get better because I failed and am redeemed!" Oh and no, you cannot loose your salvation because you don't improve, you improve because you can't loose your salvation. Adversity becomes lessons that lead to improvement. Gee whiz, none of us walked the first time we tried, it was a process and we had to grow muscles to achieve that.

Matt 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light." NAS

1 John 5:3-5
This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
NIV

Gal 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
NIV

Mic 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
NIV

Phil 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
NIV

2 Cor 4:17-18
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
NIV

John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
NIV

remember what Jesus said;

John 10:29-30
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
NIV

Remember Kathy...remember our troops...

Heavenly Father,
Don't let the lie of being good enough get in our brains. Lord if any one of us thinks this, show us and convince us of the truth. Lord we lift those who are having a hard time with life. Raise their spirits and let them see you. Lord help those who are overwhelmed in this life. We love and adore you Lord and ask for revival, wisdom and peace in our lives. Lord heal Kathy! Lord protect the troops and help them show your wisdom and mercy on the battlefield, in Jesus name, amen

Bill, I've always imagined it was the most important event in our lives a Christians.

The following is from the ELCA site on the topic. "Baptism is the foundational event that brings us into the community of faith and gives us our identity as God’s people. Martin Luther regularly reminded people that baptism was the beginning of something that takes a lifetime to complete."

just like wearing the ring shows your identity as making a commitment to another person.

I suppose the debate would be over the different types of Baptism but I have never heard anything that says it doesn't matter if you are baptized.

Hello, am new to this group, but what a lot of good posts. I am reading Lee Strobel book God's Outrageous Claims and ran across a great quote that might help at 3 in the morning when we don't really feel like serving.
" I would never want to reach out someday with a soft, uncallused hand - a hand never dirtied by serving - and shake the nail pierced hand of Jesus" Bill Hybels, I will try it next shift.

Hi All, I'm looking for some direction and clarification on baptism. I have accepted Christ as my savior, but have not been baptised yet. I am confused by the issue of sprinkle or submersion. I also see it as a wedding ring, if a married person does not wear a ring does that mean they are not married? No. So is baptism of importance or just another topic people debate over?
Thanks Bill
