Are there any good pictures of firefighters actually putting out fires
I've noticed a proponderence of really bad images of firefighting. I just seen a fire companies flickr account and seen 6 pages of a house burning. 1 pic of a FF standing outside by himself with a hose line on the fire and several pics of FF going inside. THEN 5 more pages of the house burnt down.
Of course this isn't the first time and I know most action takes place inside but when a pic shows NO hose lines going inside, No ladders thrown, one engine in front of the scene, then 10 FF's standing around it looks bad.
I don't know why we get before and after pics but very few during pics?

Too Busy Ladd. We all have better things to do then stand around taking lovely pictures to post on the internet (dumb anyway)

Here here Chief. Yet another nail gets driven in right on mark!! For the most part, I have noticed that these pics offer little in terms of education, with the exception of maybe what NOT to do. Too many times the negative chit (and there really is lots to be picked from) is brought to the forefront, and the positive gets very little attention. This can't be good for the service when we are literally picking apart a department who is just trying to do something good, with what they have. PLUS, this opens the doors for all kinds of "legal begal" type chit chat, what is private - what is not, blah blah blah. I do like to watch and look tho. It is tuff to keep my comments to myself though. I hate seeing stuff that is insanely unsafe and no point in it. Such as the non use of SCBA in any smoke. one of my pet peeves as people might start to realize lol

Well according to Hepa you arn't allowed to take pictures on scene anyhow. I have a lot of pictures of my firefighters and stuff like that putting out fires but unless it's training I really don't post them for respect of the owners of the families, for all we know that could be the worst day of their lives and they wouldn't want us posting them. I do not know how others feel about it but that could be a reason, but I agree there are some pretty pointless pictures and an over abundence of certain things or videos that really make no since to waste peoples time posting and their own time. But we are all firefighters and all love to see things burn... we are pyros....

I'm not talking about education I'm talking about perception. Of course the FF's aren't the ones taking the pics but we all know older or secial members who do. We had a great (I should say legendary) guy who took pics in Delaware.
I'm not going to argue the case.....if I'm wrong it won't be the first or the last.....

Agree / Disagree with you chief. YES you have better things to do BUT thats why there are public safety photographers that go to calls and get the pictures nobody likes but everyone loves and some in history some have become famous

We saved the office and the building front. I will look threw the other pics I have and find the front of the building. I have probly have over 4,000 pictures so I will see what else I can come up with.

I'll also state the 'too busy' reason. I know that's the case with my brigade, we won't put a person to work with the camera until a fire has been knocked down or is in the overhaul stage, simply because there is too much other work to be done. Then when we do give someone that task it's usually one of the newer members who doesn't really know what they are looking for anyway.
There is another reason that I see for the preponderance of really bad images. Too many photos taken by too many people who really don't understand photography. Especially the part of photography that says to keep the good shots, keep the not so good shots that still have importance, but delete those images that are simply bad photos, or just repetitive (do we see the media publishing every photo that thay take?).
We have a member who may not be given permission to come back into active firefighting after an injury, if that happens I think I'll suggest he takes on the brigade photographer job, he'd be good at it. When I retire from the active side I'll do that job myself - maybe not as good at it as him, but I'm not bad :o)

PS. I'm not a pyromaniac. I don't like fires, I would prefer it if there was never another house fire, they cause too much distress.

We have plenty of pictures. There are a few guys that ride along or respond on fires that take pictures and videos. Here are a couple of the more popular sites with out pictures. There's also plenty of video on youtube if you search "dcfd". Don't know any of us standing around outside. The video site I posted has some great footage of agressive attacks on the front page. Many companies in the department also have their own sites with pictures.

Yes I have actully and I wasn't meaning that in any way offesnive just talking. and believe me I will gladly speak for myself. I love fire its awesome, do I like people being hurt or dying HELL NO! That is the point in being here so we can help prevent that or do whatever we can but as a firefighter you have to like fire or at least respect it to be in this line of work.
