This is just to mix things up from all of the safety talk on here.  Of course you want to be safe, but the only topics discussed now are about things such as gear and seat belts and whether or not to…Continue

Rough times in the DC/Baltimore region

Started this discussion. Last reply by Timothy John Dodson Feb 7, 2013. 8 Replies

The past ten days or so have been extremely rough on firefighters on here in the DC/Baltimore region.  We have had an abnormal amount of injuries.  Most of you may have already heard about these…Continue

Risk a lot to save a lot is BS

Started this discussion. Last reply by Ben Waller Jan 23, 2012. 56 Replies

Great article I just read.  He talks about the "Risk a lot to save a lot" saying and how it really doesn't make sense.  Some people pull up on a vacant building and say that they aren't going in…Continue

Heres an interesting article in Fire Engineering written by a sargeant that works with me at the District of Columbia Fire Department. I notice the same problems with discussions in this site. People…Continue

capcityff replied to Derek J Sinesi's discussion What's your first concern's when you roll up on this?
"Yep.  If it's a basement fire most chiefs won't even let the first due engine put the fire out.  They protect the interior stairs and the search operations going on above.  2nd due pulls a live to the rear and goes in…"

capcityff replied to Derek J Sinesi's discussion What's your first concern's when you roll up on this?
"Why can't first due establish their own water supply? According to our SOG 1st due has fire floor, 2nd due has basement, 3rd due establishes water supply(we use humat) and back up 1st due, 4th does same with 2nd, 5th is RIT.  However even…"
