Emergency Lights In Personal Vehicle
What do you think Should they be allowed yes or no Personally i think they should be allowed but you should have to take a class on pov response before being allowed to use them but should you be able to use them why or why not

I would point out the fact that there is a search feature on this site where you can see if there is already a thread on a particular subject, but I don't want to be branded as an a$$hole, (even though I am!).
This is approximately the 23rd thread about emergency lights on a POV! I can almost guarantee that it won't be the last.

Hard to imagine people qualified to fight fires who aren't mature enough to use warning lights.
Drivers HIT firetrucks sitting there with all warning lights running.
If a strobe on my POV means I don't have to catch a ride home it's done a good job.
Montana law requires responders AND emergency vehicles obey speed limits.
Warning lights just help you be noticed and hopefully avoided by other drivers rubbernecking the scene.

Yes most are repeats... why? The points system encourages us to start discussions; it doesn't matter if it's been talked about before.
Just like magazines new members subscribe to FFnation all the time. How many articles do you see in magazines where the topics had been covered before?
Maybe a member wants to refresh an old subject by opening a new discussion. Maybe he or she wants to hear input from the newest members.
I don't think we should discourage members from starting discussions and trying to be active in the community, maybe instead of saying "We have talked about this before!!! ARG!!!" We could say, "This has been discussed before. The XX discussion had some great ideas, but the BB discussion was mostly just chatter...hope this helps."
How many times do we retrain on CPR? Thick skin, there are always new members to teach be it here or at the station.

Ryan, I dont think the guys that were talking about repeat posts would disagree with you.
But I think their biggest gripe is that we revisit lights and sirens, colors of gear and helmets and fire trucks more than we do actual tactics and training ideas.
Revisiting is not a bad thing but I think the newbies to the fire service, and the EMS service that are also new to FFN need to be worrying about the career ahead of them and not the colors and number of things they can stick on their car.

I still don't get why they are needed. If you are a volly in a department where you respond in your pov then I'm sure traffic isn't too bad. Are lights and siren needed in a city like mine? Yes. However we are career with a daytime population of 1.5 million with the second worst traffic in the nation. We blast the siren and still only move 5mph for the most part. So they are used for a reason.(on the trucks of course. we don't use our pov) I just don't see the point on spending all of that money for something that won't really help.

then live in our shoes for a few years. im from a borough in which pov lights do a very good job on a main road called brownsville road. live in our shoes and areas and then maybe youll get it. until then please dont critisize us responsible and sensible ones for using them.

I fully agree. You also need to check with your auto insurance company. Too often I've seen emergency lighting abused and used as an excuse to disobey traffic laws. State laws may dictate that warning lights need an audible warning device in use also.

I have so don't be so quick to judge. I've worked in suburbs outside of a large city and still didn't think they were needed. Now I work in one of the most dense cities in the nation. So I've seen both worlds. Don't really see the point on spending all of that money on them. Especially when you are still forced to stop at lights.
After reading all four of your posts on here I see that you've contributed nothing to this forum but complain about paid guys. Get over yourself bro. We don't owe you anything. As someone who's done volly, part-time, and paid work in both suburbs and and very large cities I can tell you there's a difference that I'm sure you don't understand yet. You also only have a few years on kid.
