St. Louis Firefighter's Widow Receives $40M from Survivair
ST. LOUIS - The widow of a St. Louis firefighter has received more than $40 million after a company that made fire safety equipment lost its appeal.
Attorneys for the survivors of Derek Martin confirmed the award to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.
A jury in 2007 awarded Angela Martin and her children $27 million in a judgment against Survivair Respirators Inc. and its parent company, Bacou-Dallloz S.A.
The Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed the jury verdict. The award was paid last month after growing with interest to $40.4 million.

I don't know anything about this case. I've never even laid eyes on survivairs...but I'll tell you this, I've never heard anything good about them.

wow i think they got what the deserved.... if people die because of your product malfunctioning you should take your lumps and not try to get out of it or it will just get worse.... i just cant believe they let a product that would separate like that on the market... dont they test these?

Although not a big fan of large settlements, but that is an argument for another day, Survivair produced an inferior product. 2 years ago we were looking at new packs, their salesman did everything and stopped just short of saying it outright, operator error, but that was his intent, needless to say we didn't even consider them.
