Why I Joined Fire/EMS
Initially I started just because it seemed interesting. I actually started on the EMS side of the house and didn't intend to fight fire at the time. I found myself at one point in the position of working for a fire department or not working at all, and it only took one fire after training for me to fall in love with it. Now, I can't imagine doing anything else.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love life at the station as well as being able to bring order to chaotic scenes.

National Memorial Weekend

Posted on October 8, 2008 at 12:33pm 2 Comments

I’m going to warn you ahead of time. This is a long post. It’s an emotional post. If you don’t have a little while, just come back later. When you’re ready, grab something to drink, and consider having some tissues close by. I’m going to share the most amazing experience I’ve ever had as a fireman.

I’ve just returned from the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This is the second time I’ve attended, but the first time I’ve been a part of the… Continue

Just a quick vent...

Okay, just a quick vent about something I've noticed.

We teach basic firefighter classes the importance of maintaining our tools and equipment. We teach them how important it is for everything to be in good working order.

Why is it, in that case, that there is not a decent sharp knife in any fire station kitchen that I've ever set foot in??? LOL Ever tried to cut an orange with a dull knife?

A probie's welcome letter

Sent to me by a friend and senior firefighter in a neighboring department...

Congratulations and welcome to the American Fire Service!

1)-Don't wait to be told to get things done around the station. If your

day slows down and your officer is preoccupied, there's a long list of

station maintenance always available to you. Wash blue rags, change roll

towels, organize what's disorganized, clean what's dirty.

Things to do (from Billy Goldfeder)

Hey...

If there was a "list of things to do before we are done" for Firefighters, there could be a wide range of things that we oughta or want to do....and

will make a good story in the near future. But the one detail I very

seriously mention way more than anything else is for every Firefighter

to at least once...attend the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial

Weekend.…

Anybody want to come along?

Posted on September 16, 2007 at 9:16am 0 Comments

Well, in three weeks I'll be in Emmitsburg for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend. We weren't able to get our honor guard set up to go, so I'll be going on my own. Of the three Georgia firefighters being added this year, two of them were friends. It's important to me that I be there.

The down side of it all, is that the guy I had been planning on having as a roommate for the trip to share expenses bailed out on me. I'm still going.

I plan to leave metro-Atlanta…

Tristen,

Went to my interview yesterday for Gwinnett county and it went very well. I had interviewed with 4 people. I dont' recall there names though, but one of the guys was very cool. He told me that they will be contacting me in about a week or so and he also told me that I did a real good job in my interview and that I had nothing to worry about. Just wanted to let you know how it went. Talk to you soon Capt. Stay low and Stay safe...

Hello Cap -

Sounds like you and I share similar views on firefighter respect and LODD prevention.

I have a sister that lives in Alpharetta. Thanks for protecting her and her family.

Brother Cruz I would never claim to be able to replace a quality FF such as yourself, I just hope I get through the day without doing anything stupid.
Hate you could not be there. Maybe next time.
