About Me:
Started out as a graphic artist with aspirations to go into advertising. Couldn't stomach the inherent lies in ad work, so I settled for a job in printing where I remained trapped for almost 12 years. After much prayer and soul searching, my wife made the comment driving home one night "have you ever thought of becoming a fireman?"

It was like a bolt of lightning hit me, though I had never considered it before that moment. I have never looked back. Got into the service at 29 yrs old.

I have a wife and two sons aged 9 and 13. We also have a cat and 2 dogs. I am among the fortunate few that can say I love both going to work and also coming home.

I have a vintage Kawasaki 900 motorcycle (1975) that is built to drag race, I love to hunt, fish, shoot, camp, and just about anything else you can do outside. I also play 5 string banjo, drums (self taught, so not very well) and absolutely LOVE a good rock n roll jam. I am absolutely addicted to reading, listening to music and I'm working on becoming at least a tolerable cook. Life is just way too good...
Day Job:
This IS my day job!
Relationship Status:
Married
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I worked 12 years as an artist before realizing I hadn't helped even one person, other than the creep that owned the company.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
It is the greatest job in the world. Somewhere that you can make a real difference for someone.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Safety and funding to do real life training.

Thanks for the add Jason. And I agree with the crews needing proper comms training...it doesn't do any good to call a mayday , if you haven't trained the proper way to communicate it.
Stay safe brother.

Hey Wallly,
Glad to hear from you. We're pretty much getting back to normal, but it's been a strange feeling since things aren't normal - if that makes sense. All the well wishes from our community and brothers abroad have been really healing and helpful. What amazes me is how sincere people are in their condolences. You can see in their eyes that they really mean it when they say they're sorry and they wish there was something they could do. It's touching to know so many people are grieving with you in some way.

Investigations are continuing; we had a meeting to disseminate the latest information, but I was working at Cincinnati and missed it. I'm hoping to catch up on the latest, but haven't gotten any further info as of yet. Everyone is kind of focused on the latest hiring process (Colerain and the City are both hiring) and have been really concentrating on our R.A.T. training. (Ha! My nose is all busted from the Denver and Nance drills and muscles I forgot I had are screaming at me for all the recent abuse - I feel OLD!)

Hope all is well in the great state of Texas... Stay safe, bro!

I know you guys do a damn fine job, and I hope Colerain showed in full force for "Firefighter Appreciation Day" shouldn't it be everyday?

Oh Jason, Again, I'm so sorry for your loss and the rest of the boys. We all feel so awful. I know I got harsh towards this situation in the beginning on this forum, and ignited the conversation/reply towards WALLY, that was a total waist of my time, but It just plain pissed me off after knowing Robin for so long, and flip working with her for so long, starting out together since 91, being a friend of hers, knowing her strengths, all the occasions together (all the parties and weddings including our own), the close calls they had together, the good moments, that is what I have been thinking about, this great family-(COLERAIN & MIDDLETOWN). She worked very hard to get where she was so proudly. She truly is our hero. And I only wish I knew Brian as much as I knew her, but I'm sure he was just awesome!

I rarely get on here, and did just the same thing by seeing that story on the homepage doing a search on the story for our website that day, and that is how I found that thread and told him "SHAME ON HIM". I feel awful that I even had to stick up for her at such a horrific time.

But, as I always have struggled with ignorance in this endeavor for the last 8 years to help those of the fallen in my work as an advocate to fallen firefighter families and have seen severe devastation, I have found that come out of the woodwork is true comradery when you least expect it. Even in the local benefit I held for Adam "Lumpy" a few years ago.

I work with LODD families day in and day out, since 2001. I didn't want to say that on the thread, because there is no point. I was chastized enough! But let me know if there is any information I can get to you and your family. I hope the debrievement crews are helping you.

I have a firefighter hand photo quilt to give all of you, all the way from Colorado Springs for the fallen, and there is a memorial guestbook on my site for their memory that was announced on the news for you all to sign, and would be honored to have you sign it along with the other guys.

Keep your chin up, and thanks for being you and thanks for protecting our community.

Sincerely,
Kari C. (wife of CTFD#92)
