After nearly two decades of being on my volunteer department I’ve started noticing a frightening trend amongst our members – low attendance. And I’m not just talking about the boring and mundane weekly truck / station maintenance. I’m talking about emergency incidents and training.

A Little Lesson

As a member of our department for nearly two decades, having served as a reserve police officer and worked as a 911 dispatcher for nearly a decade, I've seen a lot and I've heard a lot, but nothing prepared me for February 12th, 2008.



Safety is critical and we all know that, but I learned a tough lesson that night that will live forever in my mind, my fellow brethren and my family.

chris why is it so hard to keep the volunteer program going both in ems and fire fighting.in my area the volunteers are dropping away extremely fast because the local township and local goverment just let these programs fade out.what can be done to keep volunteers aroundand going.please reply to me...steve guis
