The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

yeah and ya know like you deal with freezin/frozen pipes - we opened all the drawers and cupboards etc. to let the steam encompass and heat all crevices

Thanks for hearing about my crazy life...

I do seem to have the weirdest adventures and challenges spring up... You think I would be use to it by now... and not so surprised when one more weird thing comes up...

Yes, I am trying to get more aware about the chemicals in this world - so many problems we humans have created - from chemicals...

Tom schooled me on bed bug management... apparently a trick from his trade...

My personal favorite MacGyver skill was "steaming my ENTIRE house" ! I closed all the windows and doors, and made my house a sustained 115+ F degrees for 4 straight hours. Apparently the smary buggers can't live at that temp.

So I forced (tricked) my gas furnace to heat beyond the thermostat and put pots of boiling water on the gas cook stove to create steam - and made my entire house a giant sauna !!!

Coolest result - little carcasses all over certain areas of the house !!!

and no one has gotten bitten since

I was really proud of myself - and ingenuity :)

i am still hand steam cleaning every inch of the house too, with heavy focus on fabric objects, though Tom tells me the smarmie bastards can live ANYWHERE :(

exactly...

plus, I have about 40 hours into the project... so that is like me getting paid $375 per hour (in money I saved)

Thanks for the heads up on that, Heather. Will have to look into what can/or should be done for the ones we deal with here. We didn't even know that Class B foam can't be used unless it is an actual emergency...EPA says it is a contaminent. Kind of weird to have ARFF training with just water.
