The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Izzy - I have done it HUNDREDS of times...

One of the greatest thrills of living with a FF that was also on another dept - I get my calls and theirs... hee hee

I used to smell my ex husband when he came home from a fire that I couldnt go to ( babies at home, and we were both on the same dept, so we alternated) and I would get so pi**ed when I could tell it was a good fire ! argh

The initial knockdown took away the remaining radiant heat that had gotten to the house.

We had two engines on scene, as per SOPs and we had about 15-20 on scene. Each of the two stations is manned by one full-time FF who respond with the engines for a fire, or an ambulance for EMS calls, and we, the volunteers, respond by POV.

Ernie - YOU SHOULD DO EMS TOO... more than 80% of fire calls I have been on also need EMS skills - think burned people you coming out of the building - rehab for FFs - or patient care to FF injuries, etc. etc.

Not to mention the million medical calls / accidents and other fun things... such as the gas leak which ends up with 20 people with CO poisoning...

MORE TOOLS IN YOUR TOOLBOX - MAKE YOU MORE EFFECTIVE AND COMPETENT AND CONFIDENT IN EVERY SETTING...

One of my Chief's died on scene at a structure fire - so the FFs were doing patient care for 20 minutes while waiting for an ambulance. Since my district really does not have extra ambulances to sit on most scenes just watching and waiting for injury.

Definitely different from a book and I haven't had a live fire training yet.

Not much of an on scene plan other than getting it knocked down, it was fully engulfed by the time we got on scene.

I heard a few tires blow out, so, hopefully, we got things cooled down before anything explosive reached that point.

The siding on the house received some heat damage prior to our arrival, but, by the time we got on scene, it had already cooled.

right again, dont do it half a$$ed, because you "want to get in there" only one thats going to pay for it is you. gotta take care of you and your partner first. we've all been there, just giving you some friendly reminders, we all know what its like with that adrenaline dump

At that point it was basically overhaul where I helped to pull insulation off the walls and ceiling and started to try to push the plywood and boards off the rafters so we could get to the remaining hot spots.
