The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

depending on what your station has set up, the chemicals part, DONT TAKE IT HOME, not only will the wife be not so lovable, but the things you can get after the chemical reactions........ not good. if ya have to go to the station first., for any call, you might want to consider just leaving the gear at the station, ya dont want to be exposing the family to lord knows what, and OSHA will require certain contacts to have the gear deconned anyway

Great advice Heather, thank you...

now that I finally have one to store in the memory bank, I now have a better idea of what needs to be done on scene and I will be better prepared to make those decisions.

Yes - Izzy is right - HOSE OFF - blood, feces, urine, vomit, and DEAD off you gear outside - and chemicals - gasoline, oil, etc. etc. - at the station or in your yard/driveway - but NOT IN YOUR HOUSE... Your wife will REALLY not like you for weeks then...

and your kids will disown you...

always, always, ALWAYS make sure that everything is secured the right way, this time it was moisture, you dont want embers down the same path. or worse. and no matter what, always tell yourself to slow your breathing down, situations like that can cause you to hyperventilate without you realizing it, until you're ready to pass out. difficult, but get in the habit now, like HEather said, deliberate actions.

On the gear, yeah, knew something was not right when I felt moisture on my neck...

After going through a second air tank, I realized that the left side of my collar was not up, obviously, without my neck strap attached either...

Got that fixed and went back in with a third tank and finished mopping up.

The bigger the fire - The more the adrenaline - the more you need to SLOW DOWN and THINK and MAKE SMART DELIBERATE CALCULATED ACTIONS

Ernie, you might like EMS. a different type of adrenaline rush, its a whole different ballgame. I love them both.

I used to hate it when we alternated, but he ended up getting hurt, did something stupid, and couldnt run anymore, so I ended up getting them all. HA HA ,then I went career.

We are getting basic first aid through the FF1 course, but I am thinking very seriously of going for EMT-B when a course opens up nearby as long as I can secure the funding for it.
