The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Thanks for the heads-up Heather, not something that most people would think about when checking for scene safety, especially around here.

I am capable of securing quite a few types of firearms, just don't have too many of my own...19C Glock, .22 Marlin, 12 ga. Remington

Heather- Kind of what I thought as well!!

Izzy- Exactly, the look on her face makes it all worth it, especially later on this evening when the wife and I found out that it was the bedroom of a girl's mom that my wife worked with...she lost her clothes and medications.

know how to unload a weapon... uncock a weapon... put on safety... often you can not leave the weapon on scene... so know how to secure it during transport - out of the patient compartment...

yes - i learned to ask DO YOU HAVE ANY WEAPONS OR NEEDLE OR SHARP ITEMS ON YOU - before I do a thorough body search

and when they say NO - I assume they are lying

and I assume ALL UNCONSCIOUS WILL HAVE A LOADED... AND COCKED WEAPON ON THEM AND A KNIFE OR TWO AND A FEW NEEDLES

nah, you always protect yourself and your parter first, no matter what.

Ernie, was a good feeling, wasn't it? even though it was a cat, gives the owners something bright to look at.

you might not think its much. and you'll get harrassed about "saving a cat" etc, but ya know what? to those owners, you're awesome !

( personal experience- got to do the same with a dog, years ago)

Makes sense Heather...

and just further emphasizes the "1*" theory

i thought I would NEVER walk away from trapped people in a fire, children in danger, and a house fire UNTIL THE MOMENT I WAS MET WITH A GUN TO MY CHEST - STOPPING ME...

That changed my perception/beliefs about myself dramatically.

I was not willing to die... with no guarantee of saving another...

Thank god... no one died.
