Never heard REO version; just the Gary Wright. I believe you are right on the ten years. But, that would be for units purchased within the last five years or so. Units now reaching ten years are older technology and probably should be replaced.

The one which caused me problems was about eight years old; antiquated by current standards.

Rachel, I'm in agreement with the Chief on how old are they. Even the newer style (electric & interconnected) have a life span on them. If memory serves me, I still think it's around the 10 yr span. Best bet would be to replace them maybe one at a time. If you're still experiencing the same problem then you could have a short in the system somewhere.

Rachel, had the same problem. Bought a house and about four months later, one started doing this. Replaced batteries; same outcome - kept chirping. Knew it was an older model, so just replaced it.

WOW!!! My dad still can't seem to figure out why our smoke detectors keep going off randomly at night!! They are electric with battery back-up. We replaced the batteries(even though this should not have been the problem)and it is still happening. One starts it nad then all of the others follow suit. So far he has removed 2 of them-if he puts them back they go off again! Do you know why?

G'Day My Family !

This month has been a little complicated... and freaking busy... so sorry I have not visiting more...

I have been working on applying for a bunch of new jobs, since I am not returning to my f/t job. Found a few good options... and I making good progress on my final project doctoral dissertation (i am plotting ways you all can help me - lol)

Yes, my computer is still intermittently giving me the blue screen of death.

Yes, I still need to do my taxes. (endless receipts:(

Yes - my 2 housmates are alive still. The girl is moving out May 20... and I need to move the guy out near about that same time. Since they are driving me CRAZY (short trip)...

They both don't seem to understand it is NOT OK to make 5 smoke detectors and my CO detectors go over 2-3 times a day... EVERY DAY... because they fail to want to learn how to cook properly on a gas stove.

No - you can not burn pans of rice dry 20 times a week
No - you can not cook with dry pans.
No - you can not roast food over the open flame.
No - you can not use the gas stove top like a campfire.
No - you can not use the gas stove top like a gas grill.
No - you can not use the gas stove top like a stone pizza oven.

NO - YOU CAN NOT LIVE WITH A FIRE FIGHTER AND REPEATELY CREATE FIRE DANGER - IN HER HOUSE - WITHOUT PISSING ME OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FW, got our first round and now they're saying round 2 later tonight. Hoping it's not too bad. We had 5' worth on Tuesday.
