The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

That would be difficult, Heather. It takes a really special person to give many of those kids a chance to try to turn their lives around.

We had a foster home across the street from us when we lived in Oxnard and those kids came over fairly regularly whenever we were out playing with the stock car, building BBQs, among other neat projects and my dad thought it was pretty cool to be able to expose them to some of that kind of stuff. However, one of them learned really quickly not to ask my dad if he had a light for a cigarette while he had a cutting torch in his hand...LMAO!!

and now that you explain it - you are right - that is what I feel about my infantile housemates... they NEED "guiding... in the correct direction"

i foster parented for 7 years - high risk kids age 8-21...

and several of them I have had the police handcuff, or the police have brought them to me in handcuffs... the best was the one day one of my kids was also in leg irons... I asked the officer to leave him there in the irons for 7 hours - LOLOLOLOL

still didn't work - i found out 5 years later (when he was an adult) he was in a foot chase with the PD for some stupid crime and he jumped off our city bridge into the half iced over river - in the middle of winter... and he never came out. The PD found him dead the next day 1/2 mile down stream jammed up under a block of ice in the river.

apparently he needed more than an evening in leg irons...

he only lived with me a few months - but it sucks !!!

Great kid - messed up life...

i prefer the prison and fun deprivation approach
Comment by Fabulous Heather Days of Summer on May 15, 2011 at 1:42am
so you whip your kids?
Comment by Ernie Scheinert on May 15, 2011 at 1:40am
I also prefer to think of whips in the "happy" connotations as well...hehe. However, I also like to refer to the phrase for guiding the young ones in the correct direction when needed.
