The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Thanks Bill I need it. Last night was noisy even though I was sitting about 3 miles from the fireworks. They were beautiful.

it is ok to be the only person packed up on scene... the life you save - could be our own...

it is ok to be the first packed up on scene

and commonly it is good to pack up then take over for someone not packed up - and then remind them to go pack-up

hopefully your leading by example, will get others to follow your lead

I think current fire school teaches to pack up for car fires... it is important to remember when I took it 20 yrs ago, they did not... so a lot of the old-timers were not trained at the same level you are with the new regulations... so the old-timers may forget to adapt.. I'm just sayin...

yes, you are filling your tool box - GOOD JOB !

I was shocked to get on scene and the two dragging the line to the care were not packed up, so, unfortunately, I proceeded to head to the line and helped with prying the hood up and then open to get water in. Afterwards, one of the full-time FF's and I discussed the situation and we were both shocked that we were not packed up as we normally do for vehicle fires.

I am not sure what, or where, the fire originated, but it looked like it may have been between the engine and firewall. Luckily, the one occupant was already out of the car and was guided upwind and away from the intersection that the car was at, which, luckily, had no exposures nearby. The hood finally ended up taking a combination of a halligan and bolt cutters to get open as we couldn't get the primary latch to release or get the lock assembly to tear out of the hood or the radiator support...go figure.

Continuing assessment of the situation seems to reinforce the belief that white helmets destroy brain cells as evidenced by our volunteer chief, whom, by the way, was on the nozzle. Pretty sure that next time I will strongly advise that we pack up before charging the line and approaching the vehicle.
