The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Sarah- Hope you are getting to the ER and getting yourself taken care of...definitely not something to be taken lightly.

Kyle- Congrats!!! I haven't made one on the nozzle yet, just partner to the nozzleman so far. BTW, be ready to spill the details...Heather and Izzy will be grilling you if you don't...lol.

Brian- Ironically enough, we are still using MSA Ultra-Lite II's that still utilize that waist-mounted regulator.

Hi Heather!!

yeah Brian - I was hoping her telling her mom would get a more accurate eval and possibly a trip to the ER. But, I have been thinking about it, you are right, Sarah is 16 and needs to cut this off at the pass and get the ER to treat her with an IV, etc. So Sarah - do what Brian said - go get professional medical help!

Sarah, hit the ER!

Nice job Kyle! My first time on the nozzle my partner bailed before we made the top of stairs because his mask wasn't connected properly. His hose came undone. We had the old school SCOTT's back than. The ones with a hose from the mask that you had to screw onto the regulator. Anyway, I made the top of the stairs and started hitting the fire while a LT was following the handline to back me up. Good times! Remember my first like it was my last and that was 20 years ago!

Sarah last week I ended up in the ER with heat exhaustion.

You are showing signs of heat exhaustion - GO TELL YOUR MOM THIS RIGHT NOW - if she is not aware yet.

Sister here is a few things you can do to help reverse the effects.

1) Tell you parent to keep an eye on you - don't be alone, since you can dramatically get worse and end up unconscious

2) STAY OUT OF THE HEAT - even for a few days

3) Drink lots of water AND gatorade - you have to restore your electrolytes NOW - you have to force fluids in yourself, even if you do not feel like it

4) Take a long cool bath - just lay in a cool tub and let the cool water lower your body temp

5) Ice pack on your head/neck will help

6) Eat salty foods, like chips which will help the body balance its salt (ironically)

7) IF IT GETS MUCH WORSE, GO TO URGENT CARE - BEFORE YOU PASS OUT

I am... sick today

After being in the heat for 6+ hours with the company for an event I think the heat finally got me.
Headache, nausea, and sore arms and legs. Not good, not good. And its not getting much better

Evening all!! Hope everyone is fairing alright with the weather...warmed up here a little again, but nothing like the heatwave that we had a few days ago and is heading eastward.
