I am getting ready to get back on a vol fire dept. I am about one hundred pounds over weight. I am a Security Officer For my day job. Have been inactive on the fire status for a while. Any tips on reconditioning would be appreciated .

I agree with Rick... start slowing and don't burn out or hurt yourself and then give up. Be prepared to be discouraged. It's normal. When you start feeling this way, just realize that you have to stick to things and keep moving forward in order to see changes. It's not easy, and don't let anyone con you into thinking it is (sometimes trainers at the gym can do more harm than good).
I lost about 75 lbs of fat and put on 18ish lbs of muscle in 18 months. It was hard, I had set backs, I had to remind myself that laying on the couch might be cozy, but it's not going to get me anywhere. Food was the hardest part, I had to commit fully, the odd cheat meal here and there. It sucked for a while, but once the changes were adopted, it became easier.

Don't short change yourself, you are the only person in control of your health. Good for you for grabbing hold and going for it!! Best of luck to you, work hard and you will see results. Be good to your body and it will be good to you!!

Take care and let us know how it's going!! :)
I have a great exercise program for you when you are ready. By that I mean take the advice of these two guys and start slow. The best exercise, in my mind anyway, is what is called interval training. But it is hardly for beginners, start with some light weight training. Give your body some time to adjust to physical activity again, I would say about a month maybe more. You will know when you're ready to step it up. When you are get in touch with me and I'll help you out. The other major change is your diet, I'm sure you already know this. What I have had extreme success with is the ABS diet, its written by the editor of Mens Health magazine. This is hardly a "diet" in the conventional sense. You can pick this book up at any bookstore. There are to versions of the book, the full book which you don't really need, then there is the pocket guide. Its about 8 dollars and it tells you everything you need to know. Read this book cover to cover, its great. Good luck, and if you need any help just email me.
