Hi everyone, attended the local Airshow as part of a fire crew last week - all went well, check out my images!

Re KD below seeking info on going career, self-belief is critical. If you want ti succeed, you need to believe that YOU CAN.
Keep up the physical training, practice the aptitude tests, find a training buddy and get a mentor who is already a career firefighter.
Good luck and go for it!
Cheers,
AA

Hello all!
So I know that this has probably been a topic/discussion before but I need some advice and I figure this would be the better place to find it. I have been a volunteer for three years and now I am working hard towards the transition of going pro. I understand some of the challenges I will face with getting hired here in Canada but I was hoping to get any further advice, tips and wisdom from you ladies. Anything will help. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I’m a volunteer firefighter with the Country Fire Authority in Victoria, Australia. My brigade attends bushfire (wildfire) as well structure, Hazmat, MVA’s and other incidents.
Currently I’m in the Women and Fire Mentoring Program - http://www.cfaconnect.net.au/news/women-and-fire.html - if your fire dept runs something similar I’d love to hear about it.
Cheers,
AA

Now I have a place I can go to to be able to talk to other females on a fire department. It is hard since I am the only female on my department. But of course the guys no I don't put up with the bs. LOL I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years.

Absolutely Ranni! I was lucky that my husband figured out that at home, no titles, no Fire Dept stuff, because we had some years that things were so crazy at the Dept that it spilled over into our private lives. It's not easy to keep the two separated, but out of 23 years of doing it together, we managed to keep it where it should be most of the time. When it came home with us, it could be pretty crappy. Because it doesn't matter how long you've done it, when the Chief and Captain go home and are still the Chief and Captain when they walk thru the front door, it can be way too much stress on a marriage. I've always tried to tell the other women on the Dept to forget about it when you get home. Not easy, but it is necessary. Especially if you aren't with someone that supports you 100%, it really is hard. So, as much as I love Fire and EMS, I'm really looking forward to our 24th wedding anniversary in January, because it will be the FIRST year that we haven't been Firefighters since we've been married! Wow, I'm just me, and he's just my husband, what a novel experience!

So, for any Sister Firefighters who are "married" to the job, literally, take it easy, enjoy your partner or spouse for who they are, and make sure they do the same. If you don't support each other off the Dept, you will find it's much harder to do it on the Dept!

Ladies, enjoy the holidays, stay safe, and applaud yourselves for doing what not so many have managed to do! No matter what, you're a FF or EMT, and you are amazing, don't forget it!!

Hi to all the girls,
This is a reply to lisa comment about being a firey an dating one.i myself am a firey and so is my partner we are both based at the same station,my partner has always supported me joining up to be a firey and im glad, but he also likes to think he knows it all sometimes...i keep reminding him that im still learning and instead of making out that i dont know much how bout guiding me....we keep our relationship out of the station an on the job....easier said than done i know...but we can not favour each other over fellow fireys....your partner should support you an guide you in your journey of being a firey...its not easy let me tell you...but just know this you will get better in time an then watch him come to you for support etc
