I am 39 years old. Have been on my fd for 2 years. Am ff1 certified and am gettting ready to go off to the acadamy next month for ff2. Looking forward to that! I find being a female on the fd can be a challange at times. because there are the few guys that have it stuck in there heads females belong in a kitchen. but I am stubborn and love what I do. I dont plan on going away.

Hello From Mississippi, Hope everyone stays safe out there and have a Merry Christmas. I volunteer for the Town of Raleigh I am the president of the department also the training officer on the HazMAT team for the civil defense and love every minute of it. Also work fulltime with AMR Ambulance service. The men in my department would go in a with me burning sturture with me before they would some of the others and that make me feel good to know they have that much faith in me. Keep up the good work sis. And God Bless

hello from Western Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth...i was 110 lbs of bone when i joined the FD 11 years ago. don't expect that you can do the job of a 200-lb man. however, 11 years later i'm now 130 lbs of 95% muscle (got a beer gut that i've put a lot of effort into). i'm sure i'm not the only one in this group with that kinda story.

thanks for having me, sisters. y'all be safe out there.

Hello Everyone. I wonder, if anyone has the time, could you tell me a bit about what it's like to be a female fire fighter? I'm not concerned about people thinking I can't do it, I'm just more currious on the work. Like, what happens when your not trying to put one out, and what happens besides just that. I know like rescues, but not much more. I am very interested in becoming a female fire fighter, but I am a bit concerned about some work requirements. I come just moved here from Redding, so i can deal with heat, and I have high energy, I can deal with strenuous situations, but I'm 117, so I wonder if that will put a damper on things? So if anyone can email me with some information, it will be much appreciated, anything and everything will be useful. This is a serious inquiry. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

Hello all, I hope everyone is staying safe. I've been with my dept for 3 years and I've loved every minute of it. I am 3rd generation ff my dad is chief and I have a few other family members in. My aunt was the one who paved the way for me, my twin sister and many other of the females in our dept. Just about all the guys are great we still have to prove our self to some but thats not a problem.

i have been a volunteer firefighter for over 14 years and the guys on my team respect me. they know i have had the training. i was even the training officer when i had more time to devote to it. one of my favorite things is when i talk to children and then say i am a firefighter. when the little girls say "you are a firefighter?" my response is always YES I AM. and you can be anthing you want to be too!
