I am a firefighter in the south and it is 2009 and still I work with men that refuse to accept that I am here and here to work and do my job. Does anyone else face this problem?

Our county has several women in the fire service....our county seat has a paid female firefighter. I can truly say that everyone in my Dept. are very open and encourage women firefighters. In my last comment, what I mean to say is, there can't be no I in we. As a team we make each other strong.

I m on a very good Dept now thank goodness, one of my old ones was questionable. I am very glad to be back on this Dept. They are like my family. The dept i am on now doesnt treat you diffrent for any reason. I was really glad when we moved back and re joined, they are all awsome.

I am very fortunate that the dept I am on is very good to me, I am the only female firefighter and i believe i have proven myself and they treat me as an equal. Some say they would have me in a fire than some others, so that makes me feel good.

I am 46 years old and 180lbs and it ain't all muscle.....as long as their isn't and I in we at your department then it shouldn't matter what size anyone is.....Hang in there......

Oh yes I am blessed with an awsome family in the detpt. they are all wonderful and we all are there for eackother no matter what, my dept is the exact same way as yours. I was at one dept that wasn't that way, glad i am not on that one anymore. The Dept i am on now are so supportive.
