How could they do this? I personally think this is disgusting and the two members are a disgrace. They should be FIRED.

“All of our members take an oath to assist others in need of emergency medical aid. They have a duty to act when called,” said FDNY spokesman Steve Ritea. ~DAMN RIGHT

Be it pledged as an Emergency Medical Technician, I will honor the physical and judicial laws of God and man. I will follow that regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of patients and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, nor shall I suggest any such counsel. Into whatever homes I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of only the sick and injured, never revealing what I see or hear in the lives of men unless required by law.

I shall also share my medical knowledge with those who may benefit from what I have learned. I will serve unselfishly and continuously in order to help make a better world for all mankind.

While I continue to keep this oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life, and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times. Should I trespass or violate this oath, may the reverse be my lot. So help me God.

Is there anyone else disgusted by this?

IF this is indeed true it is extremely sad.
Ralph my thinking too. "AN NOW THE REST OF THE STORY".
Yup, couldnt remember his name. Thats it! I have seen this scenario so many times in my career. Just have to say there is more to this story.
I hope there is more to the story!
Well, It nevers ceases to amaze me, The Hippocratic oath???????????? To do no harm,. Maybe they were worried that they might get dirty. ( seriously. if there isnt more to this story than this is truly a sad day in fire and EMS). We have standards and unfortunately these folks, (if this is truly what it sounds like) did not meet nor have then probably never met those standards of care.
Michael, I am sure this IS NOT the first time this has happened in our history nor will it be the last. That said, truly sad for the patient involved. Stuff of lawsuits......................
i wonder if there is more to the story... but still they could have done something even if they didn't have gear or anything... they should have done something.. if nothing else call 911
if this does turn out to be true the men involved should be fired... thats horrible
The Hippocratic oath

This was the oath physicians took when they graduate med school. It is not even a requirement in most schools anymore.
Looks like the boys screwed up. Big time. It happens. Fire them, mark up their records so they never work in medicine or emergency services again, and the taxpayers of NY have just bought this woman's family a living when they sue. They may even be looking at criminal charges. This behaviour is totally unacceptable and can not be tolerated.

I'm OK with not wanting to touch a patient without bio-protection, but they couldn't even be bothered to ring 911 for them? At least look at the patient? My gods! What is the minimum you can do?
Hey, where does this Paul Harvey origionate from. WE get that on our radio stn. here too.
People keep asking is there more to the story. What more can it be? What excuse can they use for not rending aid to a stricken pregnant women. No gloves, have to go poop, ran out of asprin? Its like driving past an accident with injuries, I stop and triage. I don't touch anyone, I make sure its been called in with the correct address. I do what I can with what I have, just as any fire department or EMS crew should do.

The rest of the story is they should have their sorry asses fired and licenses revoked.
Because they were on their break? They should be fired, and lose their certifications...permanently.
