Training without props/facilities

I was just curious as to what ideas other departments come up with for training on skills when they don't have props or facilities to work with. I'm talking about skills like LPG fires, forcible entry, specialized RIT/rescues and so on.Stay safe!See More

Air Chisels: Do you have them and are you using them?

I came across this article and thought it made some really good points on how air chisels are being passed over and not utilized as an option as often as they can or even should be, and it got me wondering why so many tools get passed over or not used/trained with as much when they still have a use and can do the job well when used properly?Obviously, hydraulic tools have become the pick of the litter for almost every task during extrication, and rightfully so. My FD has some really good sets…See More

Difficult Rescues

Has anyone had a rescue/extrication that gave them a surprisingly difficult time lately We had an MVC the night before Thanksgiving that gave us a tough time because of how one patients legs were pinned causing a longer extrication time than we would have liked. It was a driver to driver head on between a Ranger and Taurus causing severe damage to both vehicles. What caused the difficult extrication was the damage to the Ranger from the lower profile of the Taurus. The way they hit pushed the…See More

I moved to Vancouver, WA in 2010 and joined Clark County FD 3 as an Intern FF. After my one year internship I returned to Cle Elum and rejoined the FD there in 2011 and was appointed to the position of Safety Officer.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I was talked into joining the Vol. FD by a co worker who kept telling me about how much fun it was and what a great experience it was. After a couple of months I decided to join the FD, fell in love with it and haven't looked back since.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I enjoy helping others and it gives me a sense of fullfilment.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
I think funding is number one as far as issues we face and staffing is a close second. Especially for volunteer departments who have below adequate equipment and resources because the funds are just not there to upgrade everything that needs it right away.

Hi Nathan, Thanks for your comment on my post, " Volunteers firefighters are not real ?". It's a shame that this BS, has to go on among ourselves. It's supposed to be a fraternity, I can expect it from the press and the public, but from us, no way can I accept it. Anyway, take care, stay safe and enjoy the holidays!
