We are doing away with our Visors and I need information to back up a request for Bourke Visors to replace what we have.
ESS goggles are great for rescue situations, however, I am having issues with removing my Visor until it can be replaced by something else...

One test you could run easily in your own firehouse to test the SCBA shield.....Get your newest probie...(can you see where this is going..? LOL)..Have him/her(equal rights here) Put the mask on ....Now, firmly hit him/her squarely in the kisser with a baseball bat.....test completed....analyze the results and bring them to your chief....any questions......Stay safe.....Paul
Paul,
OFLMAO
I have just the probie in mind for that detail...(insert evil laugh)
I'm going to be a "probie" in June....I hope they treat me better than hitting me with a baseball bat to test out SCBA shields...you guys are getting me scared.....LOL
Why does it have to be a probie? I have several "firefighters" who's services I would offer. The only problem is finding a bat strong enough not to break.

Sorry, I just had to go there!
Oldman - Thank you...LOL

Future Probie,
Cat :o)
Seriously though Allen, I have doubts whether Bourkes would offer much impact protection as you have described in your scenario. Nor would the visor, defender, goggles, or what ever. This is not what they were designed for. They are designed to deflect small objects. Larger items such as rafters or small high velocity projectiles (bullets) probably won't even be slowed much. I would suspect the impact rating of a face piece would probably be close to the same as if not a little better than any other eye protection simply due to design.
Paul,
Thanks, There you go getting into trouble again..LOL...What did you tell me that trouble finds you!!!!! Ha Ha

Cat :o)
Food for thought...thanks.

Oh and CL it's just Probies who dont want to learn, but do want to tell you how smart they are...you should be good.
Allen,
Thanks!

I have had a pair of safety glasses since a good friend on the Rescue Squad gave me a pair. The Amber colored ones work great at night.
