People That Own Antique Or Former Operating Fire Or Other Types Of Emergency Vehicles
I was just watching CBS Sunday Morning which had a segment on people that own classic vehicles and the reasons they own them.
I thought no one does a segment of a TV program on people that own old fire apparatus, ambulances, or other types of emergency vehicles. I know a few firefighters that have and house units from their own fire company or other depts. after they have served their time on the front line. I have seen a newspaper article or two that talks about someone and their numbers of old units. You see on youtube parades of old units.
Stories on FFN or other networks of fire companies looking for old units from their own fire company that were sold to other depts. or traded for a new units and then sold to a fire company so that they can get it back to make a parade unit or put on display for events.
I guess someone would have to talk to a network about doing a segment and interview owners of old fire units on why they own them.

You are right. To the best of my knowledge, I have never seen a TV segment about antique or vintage emergency vehicles, either. There is a Facebook page entitled Vintage Emergency Vehicles that has some awesome photos of old fire trucks and ambulances (there is even a photo of an Edsel ambulance!).

My father put a lot of love, time and money into restoring his 1955 GMC back to glory and she looks better now than she did when in service. She was his favorite ride before she was sold by the department he worked for and he networked to find her and bring her home. If you all are interested, check out the SPAAMFAA and Old Dominion Historical Fire Society's websites and Facebook pages. The people I know who own and maintain these antique trucks, ambulances, chief cars and hose reels do so to preserve their own personal history, as well as the history of the departments they served. My best day is a day spent at a parade or muster with a bunch of salty old firemen telling me stories that enable me to know a whole other side of my dad. Of course I also have the job of dusting, polishing and straightening Roto Rays for photo shoots. Of course dad also uses his truck to showcase an example of his other hobby, making Roto Rays.

I own a 1974 Mack CF engine. I am re-equipping it and it will be my personal parade truck and if need be I will use it to fight a fire on my property.
