Is there or has there ever been a FD theme restaurant in your area? I can remember in Ocean City, MD a fire dept  theme grill and bar which had the back end of a ambulance for the front door, firefighter video game, anything related to the fire service through out the place. They even had patches from different fire depts around the state and other places.  The next year when I went back the place was gone and a parking lot took its place.

One major fast food franchise thats moving around the country is Firehouse Subs. I have found one of the stores in Fairfax County, VA near a movie theater. I looked inside and the place has the FD items on the wall and the company was started by firefighters.

This company is looking for franchises in more areas of the country.

There is a franchise called Firehouse Subs, some of the best subs I've ever had.  There was also a bar/grill place years ago in Mason, MI. that was owned by a firefighter and had all the firematic stuff hanging from all the walls and all around, it was really cool - don't think it is there any longer.  We need more of these places.  Check out www.firehousesubs.com

Yeah..they are good subs...but tasteless (unethical) business dealings by the Founders/leaders that unjustly sue brother firefighters.  Check out: http://www.scribd.com/doc/63374410/Jury-Verdict-Firehouse-Subs-v-Ca...    Jury verdict Firehouse Subs v Calli Baker's Firehouse Bar & Grill

Pray for these guys Chaplian Mike they really need it.

Has Firehouse Magazine been around longer than Firehouse Subs?  If so, the magazine should go after these bullies and file a lawsuit just becaus ethey can.

Opened up a couple of years ago. Little light on the theming but the food was good. If your in San Diego it's a ferry ride across the bay and a a block walk.

Brian Dumser...Yes...bully businessmen posing as loyal ex-firefighters.  As you suggested it would be real fitting if "Firehouse" Magazine (or other FD folks) using the word "firehouse" would legally beat-up on those Firehouse Subs business bullies **HOWEVER*** they cannot because Firehouse Subs Trademark(s) Federal Applications are filed in a specific "Class 42 Restaurant Services".  Trademark Lawsuits (infringements) must be in the particular "class" which Firehouse Subs is "Class 42 Restaurant Services".

So consequently it is small businesses properties nationwide that are food service/restaurants that are in harmsway of the Firehouse Subs Founders, Chris and Robin Sorensen,  bully lawsuits which many of them are owned by firefighters. That is how (tactically / monopoly) they are expanding Franchise operations/areas in townships.

***Oddly among several reasons that Firehouse Subs use of the word "firehouse" in Trademark(s) (35+) are invalid or ill-gotten or illegitimate...is because there is a Federal mandated law that clearly conditions not to Grant to ANYONE the textual word/name "firehouse" in Trademark(s) Federally/nationwide.

BUT when you got $$$ and key lawyers I presume anything is then possible to obtain (break rules) or hide from the public for a period of time under the disguise of being respectable, honorable and helpful.  Ask...Lance Armstrong!  Like Lance Armstrong...Firehouse Subs needs a salvage and overhaul for certain.

Here is a link for genuine FD folks to support a cause that is trying to address such wrongful Firehouse Subs Trademark issues and protect small businesses restaurants / bars nationwide(many firefighters). See this link:

PLEASE...pass this information on to others (firefighters).  Please educate others in the FD.

Stay safe!!

My father is a 35 year veteran of the fire service, past captain of an engine company on Long Island NY, and a great cook.  They knicknamed him "cooky" at the firehouse and when there was a fundraising dinner or department clambake, he was cooking.

When he retired from the fire service he bought a small diner and remodeled it.  I helped him nights and weekends, and we called it "Cooky's Firehouse Grill".  If you were a firefighter you got a discount on the bill, if you brought one of your patches or other FD collectible like a mug or helmet front you got a free meal.  The place quickly filled up with patches, mugs, old nozzles and air masks, pictures of old fires and member portraits, a few actually brought old helmets as well!  I cooked for him on saturdays to give him a day off and it was a blast to see other firefighters come in with their families and eat a good meal and shoot the breaze with us, talk shop, compare fires and rescues.

Unfortunately he couldnt keep it up, he went too pricey on some of the foods he served like lobster tails; around us there is not too much call for lobster tails and most cant afford it, they just like their steaks and burgers and hot dogs and pastas...basic home-cooked meals.  But my dad got into clams, muscles, lobster, fresh fish from downstate that he brought up on weekends and the menu got too pricey, so we had to sell the place.  Its another diner now owned by a vietnam vet, has army stuff on the walls now but he is a great cook as well, has great food and not too pricey, and when he is not cooking he comes out and chats with you and makes you feel at home so atleast the place is still a great place to bring your family.

Moose ..."Cooky's Firehouse Grill" sounded awesome!   Long Island NY is well-known for its fantastic foods / restaurants.

New York City is the originator (home) of "steaming" deli meat for delicious sandwiches too!  YUM!!

Your post made me hungry...off to an early lunch!!  :)

Regardless of the various legal issues surrounding Firehouse Subs, the food is good and they recognize local first responders (at least in our county they do) . Our county has several Firehouse Subs locations.

The closest Firehouse Subs in my area is in another state and close to 30 minutes away. There are some in my state but hours away from where I live. Its like certain bussinesses tend to avoid certain metropolitan areas. I guess they are afraid of the people living there or the crime or can't work with the local government to get permits to have a bussiness in their area.

I totally agree...Firehouse Subs, food is good and they recognize local first responders and provide much needed and well-deserved charitable donations.

I must also say Cheating for Charity is not good...although Cheating for Charity has been done many times before in many counties.

The Fire House Restaurant in Harrisburg, PA. Found it when we made a run to Bass Pro Shops. Great burgers!

This may not be a FD themed restaurant but they support first responders on an annual basis and thought it worthy of a shameless dig...lol

Howes Cave Restaurant, in my county (NY) has a dinner for fire, EMS, and law enforcement annually including dinner, and a live band or DJ for dancing, and the cover charge for us is free...free food, free dancing to live music...how is that for a thank you!!

If you live in this area or drive through, let me know and I will give you the address for the place so you can stop by and eat there (and hopefully be here for the free annual dinner as well)
