20 year old kid missed a corner and slammed a power pole. Pole snapped in three pieces and the head and all the lines laid in NYS Route 13. Lost power to over 1500 people. Took the state DOT 2 hours to decide if they could close the road and 3 more to show up and do it.

Police asked the kid if he had been drinking he said no of coarse. Then said just smoking and snorting. Just like it was no big deal.

Call came in at 5:46 pm and we were able to leave around 10:30 pm. National Grid got power restored about 1:40 am. Then the crews had to leave here and go 25 miles north where another car hit a pool and snapped it.

Kid walked away with no injuries.

Last two times I saw car v pole the drivers were DOA.  A fatality keeps an engine on scene until ART is done with their investigation.  Seems to me you got off easy and out early.  So I have to ask...what's the big deal?

Yea doesn't seem like too bad of a night at all.  haha  Then again I'm used to 15-20 runs every day I work.

It's just part of what we signed up for. I've sat on scene of a few all night to secure the scene until the Fire Marshall arrived to conduct his investigation. Oh and it was -20 deg.... Been to more than a couple of structure fires after working my day job all day.And left dinner on the table when the page tones go off. Just remember when you're tired or hungry on a call somebody called 911 for a reason and they are having a much worse day! Chin up

Real not that big a deal. Was practice night would have rather spent the 4 hours or so doing search or venting. Something fire related then standing in the road because some yuppie got stoned and forgot how to drive.

It's part of the job.  I hate riding the ambulance and would give my EMT card up in a second if I could but it's what I'm paid to do.  The days of riding a fire truck every day and going to a fire or two every tour are gone.

You are right capcityff it is. We are lucky if we go to a fire well a good fire twice a year. That's one of the reasons i get upset when our practice nights get messed up for something like shutting down a road. You would think the sheriffs could do it.
